Sounds like overheating. Your PC can be full of dust after a while so there is probably low air circulation and maybe not enough fresh air goes inside. Check all vents, fans and radiators.

Air duster is your friend.

My bet is graphics card overheating, whip it out and clean it up, if it has a removable heatsink take it off clean it up and apply new thermal paste, doing this to my card dropped the temp from the 90's to the 50's

Hard to get to? Neutral I'm guessing your bits aren't going to get much of a clean at all.

You need to take those components out, open them up and do a proper job, they will be jam-packed full of clogging dust. I did my brother's over the weekend, the intake-grill on his graphics-card had a 1cm-thick wall of dense dust totally obstructing it.

OP, i had same problem and solved with a good clean out. Be gentle if you use the hoover Very Happy

Do NOT use a hoover, static-air is generated at the tip and if it gets anywhere near a chip it can kill it. I learned that the hard way.

I must be lucky as i have never had that problem. I only use for thick shit that the soft brush will not move and only with the plastic attatchment on.

If your graphics card has a fan on it make sure it's working once you put it back in after cleaning it.
Also check other fans are working properly.

If it still shuts down after cleaning everything it "could" just be vista. Sometimes it doesn't get installed properly and has all sorts of problems. Another clean install might fix it.

XP used to do it a lot when i reinstalled. No idea why.

Ditto I regularly hoover my pc's and laptops and have done for years.

Download this, watch the temp and tell me what happens.
You probably just need to clean the graphics card.

I have a HD3850 and it's the same. The fan pushes air through slits that are part of the heatsink. I kept crashing in game. Took the cover off and it was totally blocked, looked like a carpet inside.
Glad it's sorted for you. You can use the program to check stability as well btw.

XP shuts down when playing games on steam, i think it might be a overheating issue but my pc seems to make its own temps up, the sensor must be duff, also sometimes my pc will not boot up propperly aswell.
