Can anybody enlighten me? (Bandit 1200)

Ok,

This is a question regarding insurance.

Can anybody think of why when i did an insurance quote on a suzuki bandit 1200 it was only £281 per annum, bearing in mind im only 20 with 2 years no claims, an r6 is currently costing me £1300 a year, and and rs250 £350 a year.

Does this not seem strange to you?

Not particularly, if you check out the insurance for a zx-12r it may also surprise you. Some bikes just don't command high premiums

I suppose i just find it strange how i would be paying more for a 250cc that is also worth less than the 1200cc bandit.

And £281 for a 20 year old isnt all that bad i suppose =]

Lots of things to consider though to be fair.

The R6 is a sportsbike covered in plastic so is of a higher group than a naked bike. The kind of rider that chooses the R6 is generally of the inclination that they want to go fast and the older models were used as a barry-boy to bike stepping stone by many a hedge seeking chav. The bandit 12 is not a sportsbike and may attract a more well rounded individual and therefore in the experience of the insurer they don't tend to end up buried in the back of a VW Golf on the local bypass.

As for the RS250, although it is plasticcy and sporty it is probably owned by enthusiasts that know sticking it in the dyke means they probably wont find another one in good nick. They are also low mileage machines so less chance overall (apparently) of having an accident.
