Been raining quite a bit of late - this is a good thing for laning Cool

Put a new front tyre on the KTM and this is the first try of my exhaust weld (pidgin pooh), so it was all to play for!! Smile

Four of us in total ventured out. The plan was to do the southern route, with the 'long route' stitched ontop.

I don't have power on the KTM, so the route (~170 miles in total) had to be done from memory and with a map ... Confused

All was going well until one of the riders had a FAST off down water lane (near Alton, Hampshire). He was badly winded and had been knocked out ... Shocked ... to be honest, he must have been flying as the incident to stop distance was quite a ways ... he was a bit bruised and battered (enough to finish his day there) but looking at the scenery (BIG logs/trees and rocks) and the upended tree he brushed against instead of hitting head on - it was very nearly far worse Confused

Anyway, one of the other riders needed to get back anyway, so the two of them went home and the remaining two continued.

The rest of the day went without any major drama, except for me only making it to the garage with ~2miles of fuel left in the tank!! Shocked

Mate that looks amazing. Where do you go to do that? Is it your bike or do you hire them?

I'm going to have to invest in a crosser.

Did the welding hold, after you threw it on the ground a couple of times on that lane ??

it's my bike.

the cam is mounted to the lid via standard bracket and 3M sticky pad Smile

the lanes are in south Hampshire.

the exhaust held ok it seems so far Smile

Unfortunately riding like that on green lanes in only going to increase the likelyhood of them being closed to all motorised vehicles.

They aren't motocross racetracks and are used by walkers, cyclists,
horseriders etc.

One decent accident and you're going to give the local councils all the ammunition they need to stop you riding on them.

Yes but you have to ride to the conditions and unfortunately walkers and other unmotorised users have priority. Hit someone at speed and expect to be in a fair bit of trouble with the rozzers.

I tend to avoid that - but do bunnies have rights too? Hit one last week.....

Fast and safe is possible, the 'use the lanes slowly' crew assuming anyone faster is inherently dangerous gets on my wick. Whatever happened to having fun?

It is a public highway ... if people want to wander in the road, then they might get hit ... they must know/realise that right ... at the end of the day, there is not real difference between a lane and a normal road in that respect, so why do it mindlessly?!?! Wink

What a surprise that was to read an answer like that. Enjoy it while you can because only irresponsibility and accidents are the only reason these places will get closed.

Wonder how far your "tough shit if you get hit" attitude will get you if you kill someone. As far as I'm aware cyclists are allowed to ride on "roads" as well.
Oh, I don't think they're one way either, but I'm sure you've got plenty of skills to avoid someone doing 50 in the opposite direction.

That's BS - Look at the proposed TROs in Surrey at the moment. Nothing to do with bad riders or accidents, entirely to do with Haters not wanting people exercising their freedoms near their very expensive houses. I'll continue to ride quickly, but courteously and safely, you can continue to subjugate yourself to these small minded killjoys whilst sneaking around the countryside trying to have fun.

Neither approach will make any difference to TROs but at least we'll both be enjoying ourselves. I can understand being judged by people who don't know what trail riding is all about, but fellow riders criticising those who choose to ride faster, yet safely and courteously gets my back up.

There is a difference between fast and dangerous - a difference that seems to be glossed over ever more frequently.

Astounds me how very tedious this tread lightly TRF approach to trail riding is. Doubtlessly they do great work when TROs are proposed - it is thanks to them that I became aware of and objected to the TROs I mention above - but they are sucking the spirit and fun out of green laning. Guess it makes sense to trail ride at a pedestrian pace when wearing slippers and smoking a pipe Laughing
