Hi Guys,

looking at spending up to £750 on my first bigger bike for commuting 40 mile round trip.

What do you think of this? I am a little concerned about the exhaust, looks like it has been painted, and why would you replace handle bars?

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-SUZUKI-BLACK-/150486612575?pt=UK_Motorcycles

What other options are there for a commuter, I want low insurance and fuel bills but still want a bit of power to be able to nip past the odd car when necessary!

I have also thought about a big scooter or maybe just a 125 but i think i will regret it after owning a 400.

Cheers!

The exhausts rust quite badly so its not unusual to see then rubbed down and repainted. Bars are generally replaced to give a better riding position or simply for looks. Generally the GS isn't a bad bike, pretty reliable and easy to ride. They aren't worth a lot of money and the spares are cheap and readily available. Good general commuter.

Personally I think that bike is close to top money, I wouldn't want to pay much more for it. Having read the advert I don't think that they have owned it very long, something I don't personally like unless its dirt cheap.

I agree with the above. They are decent little bikes, I done my mod 2 on one and found them miles better than the Kwak ER5 I used for mod 1.

Only trouble is, after a while you will probably find the 500 gutless. Great for what they are, low cost easy to ride and maintain and low tax and insurance but when it comes to racking up the miles I'd want something a little bigger. I had a day on an EN6 Kwak and The difference in the 150cc from the 500 feels massive. The bike was bigger and more comfortable too. Sadly they arent in your quoted price range.
