best 1999-2001 sports bike, 600, 750 and 1000... discuss :)

youve got the likes of the 1999-2002 r6, 1999 srad 750 and 600 in comparison to the 2001 models, the R1 of course! the 2001 gsxr 1000! blades etc...
what are your thoughts, and opinions ?

I have just bought myself a 99' ZX9R which is a great sports tourer, and also it's pysically a large bike so good for my 6ft 5 frame.

However, the same vintage R1 is a better sports bike.

Another vote for the R1 here. It done the same as the RS125 Aprilla done when it first came out. Broke the mold and re invented sports bikes. (125's in the aprillas case.)

Before the R1 came out it was the old rehashed and updated/outdated gixxers, blades, zxr's and yamaha went back to the drawing board and came up with a great bike that when it was released took the world by storm leaving the other 2 big jap names to catch up.

Personally i think the R1 is a fantastic bike, the older models looked better than the newer ones. But the R6 was my fav of the 2.

I'd go for the R6, it was my first bike & really enjoyed it. Aggressive when you needed it to be but i found it to be easy/great to learn on. Only problem was that 2nd gear issue. And plus for the reasons below, it was nice to ride. Would love to ride an R1.

With the early bikes, the R1/R6 seem to get in early with the sportsbike 'look' the pointy rear & front were all in proportion where as the competition either had a massive rear or massive front which didn't look right & looked more like a sports/tourer & made the bikes look bulky, most seemed to have those support bars holding the front fairing too.

Not that the others weren't nice bikes but if you look at sportsbikes today they are all similar, all have that 'in proportion' look & it seems like Yamaha got there before the rest.

It's the ZX9R.

Its slightly heavier than an R1, yet has a faster quarter mile time and the same top speed despite having a smaller engine.

Gotta love kawasaki engines.

when i was looking i sat on the zx6r, cbr6rr, R6 and gixxer6. im 6'2" tall and it was only the R6 that i found comfortable.

I didn't think the RS125 was much of an improvement over the AF1? And further, that the similar Mito was out before it.
My personal experience is that there's not really a massive amount in it between it and the NSR125, while I'd say the difference between the early R1 and blade of a similar time is a lot more notable.

This isnt just about the bikes ive listed, anything around that era realy, bikes around that time interest me alot, i mean i love the style, but theres just sumthing about Srads, and old R6's.....

I'm going say the TT600 (seeing as everyone else is choosing their own bikes).

First 600 to have fuel injection. Chassis design and brakes were better than any of the current models, while keeping almost the same power as the Ninja and keeping as light as the CBR. Not bad for Triumph's first 600 sports.

It was such a threat, it caused a fairly violent reaction from the jap manufacturers. Radical redesigns, bought us the 636 engine and eventually the B1H, the CBR600RR's, the K series of gixxers and the R6.
