Oxford first time sports panniers..

I'm going away next week and I normally use my ammo box steel panniers but they are seriously heavy let alone when loaded... don't want to spend out on better panniers as I'm selling the bike! so tempted by some cheap throwoever panniers..

question to someone who has them is.. how adjustable are they??? the seat and pannier racks on my africa twin is quite wide so they would need to stretch from left pannier rack across to right pannier rack... if that makes sense??? I believe they are designed for sports bikes so wondering if they're really narrow?

the straps that join the panniers together have velcro patches on them so are adjustable for width

Think it's them ive got, they cost the same and look the same lol. Just forget the name. They're held on by velcro on strap over the seat and two under the seat. Fairly lightweight. I use them on my bandit and that has a fairly wide seat.

I have the Oxford Sports Panniers (not sure if they are the same as the First Time ones?). I've just measured the three straps on each pannier and they are 28cm each. Given that you need a degree of overlap in order to make them secure, I've measured the 'spread' to be approximately 50cm.

Cool - just make sure that you keep them away from the exhaust, as they melt quicker than the ammo boxes! Oh, and line them with something waterproof if the weather looks like rain. I use Ortlieb style flimsy waterproof fabric bags, but you can get cheaper versions online. The rain covers Oxford supply (if they are the same ones) are OK but not very reliable. You can always use bin bags for a quick and easy solution!

Just thought I'd update here incase anyone else is considering them.

I'm quite impressed! They weigh nothing at all, seem well made and fairly easy to fit, I managed to get them to fit my Africa twin easy enough and that's with them sitting over the pannier frames..

Can fit a surprisingly large amount in them considering their size.

So yeah, well worth £35 and on first reflection seem more than adequate for a 2 week touring trip. But I guess I'll know for sure when I get back in a couple weeks time Smile

A lot of people on this forum have those bags (myself included). Wink

They melt very easy on the exhaust. Rolling Eyes

All very very good. Make good use of the water proof rain covers though as the zips arent water proof.

Just make sure you bungee the fuck out of them Very Happy

I have similar ones, I found the middle strap irritating, so I cut it off, and I used black gaffer tape to pull the two remaining straps together, for ease to getting them under the rear seat.

The first set I bought, had a faulty zip, and Oxford happily replaced them without question and paid for return p&p too.

I have used shoe protector waterproofing spray on them, but also use bin liners - not that they have ever leaked. Thumbs Up

got a pair for my scotland tour on the blade.. worked brilliantly!

plenty of room, didnt even have to expand em and fit a weeks worth of clothes in. strapped my tankbag to the back as well and that was only half full of chargers, cameras etc..

well happy with em apart from one thing. make sure you put some antislip/non-scratch matting under any straps that get close to the paintwork. after a week i've got a nasty scuff on the rear section where the strap was rubbing Sad
