Myself and 3 friends are planning a trip round Europe next summer in June-July time. Were starting to plan early for it so we can budget, be prepared and because it's fun and something exciting to look forward to!

We know that we will have 5 weeks in June-July of next summer and we know that there are certain places we want to visit for sure, as well as certain roads we'd like to ride. Obviously at the moment it's very early stages so we may change our minds about some of the places/roads...

So 1st question is what cities and what roads would you recommend visiting/riding?

Secondly what planning tools/maps/books/websites would you reccomend to help us plan routes and timings etc?

Thirdly we want to travel as light as possible, so were thinking of trying to find cheap hostels and guest houses day to day rather than taking tents, good or bad idea do you think? Obviously we would stay outside of places like amalfi coast and Monaco etc...

Here is a list of some of the places and roads we'd like to take in:

Nurburgring
Prague
Transfagarasan highway
Croatia (ride along the Adriatic coast)
Venice
Stelvio pass
Mountain roads/passes in the dolomites - how long would you reccomend to do this area?
Lake Garda
Amalfi Coast and surrounding roads
Rome
Monaco
Annecy - French/Swiss alps mountain roads and passes, again how long do you think is needed for this part?

And are there any places that you think we should definitely consider? Obviously being so early we can pick the best places we come up with from the list to fill our time and trip!

Any tips/tricks/advice at all relating to Europe or organising bike trips in general is much appreciated!

In that time might be worth going as far as the black sea, good to get quite far if you have the time and leave the nearby stuff for when you have a smaller tour.
I would recoment taking camping stuff, small hiking tent, bag and 3/4 self inflating matress does not take up too much room, you could then eat out or a small trangina again does not use much space. It would keep costs down and allow for more versitility.
Just see what and where you fancy and go for it.

I liked riding the back roads from Bern to the St Bernard pass, then riding the St Bernard pass very much.
I was unimpressed by the coastal roads along Italy heading towards Monaco - seemed a lot better when watching bikes come past knee-down while sitting in a car with my mum 14 years ago! Reality is that it's mostly town stuff and the few little fun and pretty bits weren't worth it.

I took the Harwich-Hook van Holland over-night ferry, then first day went up to Amsterdam to collect some supplies, back down to the Nurburgring and wild camped there.
