Hello there, First post!

I'm new to biking and looking t a Suzuki ay50, I have been in touch with the seller... Apparently the bike wont start apparently a screw that does something with the revs is stopping it from starting.

He says the bike will need a new carb and spark plug to get it starting apparently.

I'm looking at this bike as it is a cheap bike, but in good nic and is a decent brand!

thanks for any help!

Assuming that that is all correct, and that the price is right, and that you can do the necessary work, then proceed.

Roy.

Hold on a minute! You didn't ask about the price, I answered the questions you asked!
Unfortunately the battery in my crystal ball has gone flat!

Haha, its funny - you must have some sort of psychic powers outside of that crystal ball, because i couldn't see a question in the initial post ;P

As you neglected to inform us of the general condition of the machine, or its year of manufacture, psychic powers would seem to be required when trying to price the same, would you not agree?

Roy.

I'm guessing the first thing is the idle mixture screw, which is a simple fix as long as he hasn't lost the screw.

Carb may just need a good clean instead of replacing. And changing the spark plug is very simple.

first off. do you know what a carb is?
if you do, do you know how it works?
do you have access to any decent tools? like a spanner set and some screwdrivers?
do you have any mechanical knowledge?
if you do, do you have patience?
if you don't do you have a hell of a lot of patience and an eagerness to learn.
if you do go for it.
trouble with trying to fix something you have never seen before is you don't know how to fix it. ends up taking usually hours, when someone with experience could do it in 5 minutes. (slight exaggeration there but you get the point)
first time i changed the chain on my bike it took me well over and hour probably much closer to 2. simply because i didn't know what tools i needed so i got one out at a time when that didn't work tried something else, which meant i had to think about what i needed to do the job. 2nd time i changed a chain took about 15minutes. knew exactly what i needed and how to do it.

so to sum up. if you want to learn a bit of bike mechanics and are preparared and patient. go with it
if not leave alone and buy something that is running. a 50cc would be a great place to start to learn some mechanics because [b]when[b] you stuff something up it will be cheaper to fix than something like a ninja or r6 etc

I once changed the carbs on a Suzuki GS. Next time I'm paying someone to do it. Right royal pain in the backside and nerve-wracking too. Took ages and it was only luck that the thing fired up afterwards.

Er how? the hardest part is removing the choke and throttle cables and fitting them again and even that isn't really hard.

More than dumb, he vaguely outlined a problem and using rhetoric asked for help. People then provided him with information and possible solutions/advice relating to his problem. No question required.

Lack of patience and mechanical aptitude. I'm more GSI than DIY.
