Bought me a Quantum kit car the other day.

It's a saloon, with a 1600 vulcan engineerings maxiflow engine, and maxton exhaust system.
47k miles.

Needs a bit of a polish and a couple of stress cracks in the fibreglass need touching up, but as a runaround it'll do well. Currently just about to go into garage to get some wiring fixed/replaced.

And my dad's saloon and convertable.

I know it looks like a hairdressers car, but cheap insurance, and I quite like the retro look. It goes alright for the engine size, and handles quite nice for a FWD.

What was the donor car?

I'm always tempted by kit cars, not convinced I will ever get round to it though.

I think they're Fiestas. Don't see the point in the saloon (might as well buy an Escort), but I like the convertible.

Looks like the ugly sister of a 323:

I thought the front looks like an old S13 200SX, and those rear lights look like a mk1 or mk2 Fiesta.

Hi

Used to see quite a few around, and unlike a lot of kit cars they seemed to be pretty well finished.

All the best

So what does it feel like to drive ?

I tend to think of kit cars as about the driving experience, with no capability at comfort or reducing noise.

Does it feel very different from driving a normal car ? Would you say it is a lot more noisy and uncomfy than a similar age fiesta, or not much difference ?

I quite like the idea of an old car with fibre glass panels, as they wouldnt rust like steel.

Modern cars don't suffer half as much as old ones used to, my car has plastic wings but for weight saving and nothing to do with corrosion.

I would rather walk than drive some of the hideous kit cars about.

I think if I was gonna do a kit car I'd do a Jaguar D type or a Stratos.

Guy I knew was building a Stratos replica using the engine from a Lancia Thema 8.32 (a Ferrari V8).

All the best

Lovely looking cars Mr. Green

Still rather have a D type it would need to have a V12 of some sort.

It just looks so... something Laughing

Cost me 840 with a years test and 6 months tax. It isn't the prettiest car around by any means, but the bodywork is in good nick. Looking to sell the numberplate, so whatever I get for the numberplate reduces the amount I outlayed.

The main reason I bought it was for the cheap insurance. In the end I'm paying around 400 tpft with free breakdown and european cover and some other bits and bobs for being a 15 pound member of the owners club, wheras a 1l fiesta would be at least 800.

It's got a big boot, and MPG is pretty good. I can put up with the bad looks.

Handles alright, but then I've only ever really driven a fiesta and a laguna and a fabia, with a brief go of a monaro.

Overall it's cheaper for me to insure and run than it's donor so I'm happy with that.

Fair play, can't argue with that who insures you?

Funnily enough I was behind a Quantam and saw a mint condition XR2 yesterday in Wolverhampton, not seen either for a very long time. I did wonder if there was some kind of OC meet/show on or something.
