Ok, sold an exhaust on eBay the other day, sold for £80 + £15 for postage.

He's send payment and everything fine, I paid no attention to the address, and having just been down the post office, turns out it's in Northern Ireland, and is going to cost just over £40 to send.

Technicially he's and overseas bidder so should have emailed me to ask what postage is? I didn't send him an invoice, he just paid through paypal automated system. Where do I stand? I don't really want to lost £25 through postage!

Don't Royal Mail still treat Northern Ireland the same as mainland UK? They certainly used to (as I've sent parcels there myself) and I can't see why they would have changed it, as it's still part of the United Kingdom.

You did tell the Post Office person that it was Northern Ireland, not just Ireland didn't you?

Oh, and have you tried somewhere like this instead: https://www.parcel2go.com

https://wap.ebay.co.uk/Member/E/ViewItem.aspx?aid=280553646238&emvcc=0

That's the best I can do ATM as I'm at work using my phone, the item number might work?

I may personally have made a muck up on the postage, but I had plenty of people from other countries asking me how much the costs were, surely if you lived in NI you would know postage costs are higher?

www.senditquick.com or www.parcel2go.com are often cheaper than Royal Fail.

tricky one really as you have stated postage to the UK, however my passport says UK and NI so you could argue it's a different country to where you agree to post to.

try Ste's sites, otherwise refund the money if he won't give you the additional postage.

First class may well be £40 to send an exhaust within the UK, the standard parcel service is cheaper for sending parcels with Royal Mail. But with that you don't get a signature on delivery which I'd have thought you'd be wanting with it being an £80 exhaust.

Posting something to Northern Ireland is the same price as posting something to anywhere on the mainland.

Tell him he is overseas and it will cost more. The auction said

Shipping Service: Royal Mail 1st Class Standard
Shipping Cost: £15.00
To: Great Britain

NI is not a part of Great Britain it he doesn't want to refund his money.

Northern Ireland is not overseas (well yes I know it is technically) but it is part of the UK so he has not broken any rules. Royal Mail charge the same to post to NI as they do the mainland, I only recently sent something to NI via ebay, was no extra.

+1 Thumbs Up

GB is the island. UK is the country. UK includes Northern Ireland but GB doesn't. Ergo - postage fees to GB don't include Northern Ireland. Perfectly acceptable to ask for more postage in this case.

The thing is I sold 2 exhausts, although the one in question is slightly heavier, there can't be more than an kilo difference....

The other exhaust costs £20 postage in the uk...and the NI one costs £40?!

I'll try and use a different post office tomorrow and see what they say. If not I'll try one of these websites!

Use one of the websites recommended. I sent two nsr125 wheels + tyres to IOM and it was about 20 quid.

Why not send it parcelforce if you need to go to the post office ?

Just priced a 10kg parcel from my house to a postcode in NI.

Guaranteed noon next day is £24, next day is £20.5 and 2 day is £15.50.

*edit, the same price applies for me to sent something to London.

Someone at the post office is taking the piss out of you. A £20kg package standard parcels (3 days, no signature £41 insurance) is £14.60, Parcelforce 48 hour is £22.50.

Assuming you know the weight exactly you can pay & print on line then just drop it off at the postoffice.

As for asking the guy to pay more, you cocked up the postage price, the fact that he's in northern Ireland is of no consequence,

Ok cheers guys, Parcels2go found DHL will do it for £15 so thats good!

Cheers for all the advice, don't know why royal fail where quiting rediculously. The fact the other box was 5.5kg and this one was 7kg made me think the rediculous price must be down to the fact it was in NI...

Thanks for all the advice Karma
