After a year of saving for the deposit and stuff Ive found the house I want and now Im going through the bullshit mortgage/solicitor part. Anyway nothing special just a 2 bed end terrace blah blah blah but it comes with..

https://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/villersCBR/01092010124.jpg

DOUBLE GARAGE! Boyhood dreams come true, theres a bit more of it out of shot on the right, its probably nearer 2 and a 1/3 garages.

So many options now, another bike that I wont ride, some gym stuff, a massive beer fridge. Christ knows who painted it brown though Shocked

Oh yeah and it comes with a house that will keep the mrs quiet! Laughing

Nice. Just a shame house prices are falling through the floor, but why wait a lifetime waiting for prices to hit rock bottom.

I've kinda consigned myself to the fact that I won't be owning a house until i'm at least 30 or at all.

If i had a garage that big away from the house, I`d live in it Smile .
If that was going to be mine, i`d let her do what she liked in the house as long as she stayed away from my garage!

lucky you Thumbs Up

To be honest Jon Im not THAT far off 30 myself! House was valued at £122k and I picked it up for £110k but we dont see that much of the changes round here in Cumbria though.

Glad I saved up, the solicitors fees and mortgage stuff is extortionate! Been saving for about 18 months and Im buying it on my own, not easy!

Oh and the garage floor has been PAINTED!!! And theres electricity and running water in there. Just need to make it as secure as poss!

A man cave for your trinkets, baubles, projects, beer, peace&quiet, and essential items.

I turned my garage into a small workshop when I found the 5 series wouldn't fit in it. The fridge, computer and comfy chair made the wife suspicious though.

BTW, those garage doors couldn't be any less secure, they look like something from a 1960's build. My parents had those identical garage doors broken into numerous times. Since they got a new garage door they haven't had any problems. (touchwood)

Which part of fixing things whilst sat on a comfy chair doesnt the mrs understand Thinking

Im going to purposely ensure that it doesnt turn into the usual dumping ground that garages do, Ive got a house for all that rubbish to go in. Once Ive got the keys, I'll whore some photos of the inside! Will start looking for titty calendars and other traditional 'man stuff' to adorn the walls with!

Chuffed to bits Laughing

Yeah I know, Ive had a look at them and I couldnt agree more. Will be setting some budget aside to sort it, ideally would prefer to convert it into just one roller style door, depends on cash! The bike wont be going near there until its done, rest assured!!

Love the garages... i'd keep them brown.. makes it look like someone boring owns. Someone who wouldn't own anything nice. Maybe an old morris miner or something. Might keep the thieves away for a little while.

Ahhhhhhh I like your thinking! Trouble is I'd be getting new doors/door and I cant bring myself to paint them brown afterwards! Maybe I could write 'This garage is kept empty at night' on it like they do with vans??

The previous owners were a pair of coppers and the bloke had a bike stored in there so theres a few security extras already there but I will be wantng MOAR!!

Also I want one of those front wheel stands that keeps the bike upright, anyone tried one?

If/When I buy a house I have one criteria, it has to have a garage, I don't care about anything else. Laughing

My mate had a garage in Harlow round the corner from his house. He never had any bother for years till he bought a huge shiny expensive padlock for the door and then he got broken in to. They must've thought he'd got something valuable inside all of a sudden.

The garage I'm currently using is bent, as a hole in it, and has shit security.. But the only one that has been broken into is the one that was like Fort Knox. Funny how thieves think.

Although not as yukky as that brown Smile .
But bad luck for the scroat that tries to get in = 2 locks from the inside + every bike is chained up + small p.i.r. alarm + my small barky dog, + i can be VERY violent if someone is trying to nick my stuff allegedly Wink

A garage is the only thing missing from my life. I was very tempted to sell the flat and buy this:

A couple of weeks ago, but tiny mortgage payments are preferable for now.

Hi

When we were house hunting we went looking for a garage with a house attached. Finding anything with a decent size garage is difficult. Think ours was 19'6" x 20'6" when we bought it (we have had it extended a bit to use up some dead space behind were the oil tank for the heating used to be, but that means the extension is a fairly odd shape).

Down side is that you will fill it up and then need to tidy it up. Which is (from last weekends efforts) a total pain, and you will forget what is stored in there.

All the best

Keith

Congratulations - looking for a place myself (going back to look again at one tomorrow, that does have a garage before anyone asks)

Hopefully your move will be smooth - unlike our last one when it all fell apart with a removals van on the drive, waiting to move in (mortgage problems further down the chain)!
