Post and Customs in this country are a puddle of the worst arse-gravy imaginable.

Small timeline here:

22nd Parcel leaves USA via. Air Freight.
24th Parcel enters the UK.
24th Parcels enters Customs and is awaiting charging.

Since the 24th of August, according to Track & Trace of both Parcel Force and USPS, it has been sat in customs.

Ringing customs elicits this response, each time:

Hi sir, we don't hold parcels for more than 48 hours unless there has been an enquiry and there has been no enquiry on the parcel in question, it has been returned to Parcel Force, speak to them.

Ringing Parcel Force elicits this reponse, each time:

Hi sir, the parcel in question has not been scanned back into our hands which means it's still in Customs, we cannot do anything until we get the scan saying it's in our hands, speak to Customs.

This is becoming a huge pain in the ass, in the parcel is a $280 laser pointer that was wanted for my birthday 6 days ago, it was sent via Express 3-5 day from California with USPS.

What a fvcking pain in the ass.

People in customs are obviously having laser fights with it. They have probably blinded each other and no can't operate any computers to scan it back out to parcelforce.

I think the item that is contained in the parcel may have something to do with it. Wouldnt be surprised if you never receive your parcel.

It is in no way illegal to own or post a laser pointer.

People in the UK have received the same laser pointer from China that has gone through customs and they get it delivered so why shouldn't I?

I think it's just craziness and laziness on Customs' part. The lack of tangible information is the worst thing.

I thought only class 2 laser pointers with less than one millwat of power are legal in the UK. hence why you haven't received your item.

I don't mind being charged duty on stuff when I buy from abroad, what I really don't like is the £8 handling charge that Royal mail charge for taking the cash.

It is illegal to own a laser pointer >1mW if you are under 18.

I am 18 so it's fully legal for me to own any laser I wish, I have a 200mW Green already and people in the UK have received the same 1W pointer so it's not a legality issue at all.

One of the guys I work with has one of these "lightsaber" laser pointers. He is a self confessed laser fan boy, having built his own laser when he was 12. Anyhow he was one of the first in the country to get his, without all the pulsing malarkey etc, got it home managed to temporarily blind himself for 2 hours and then killed spiders, lit matches and cut a blank dvd spindle thing in half!

Few days later he said he was getting rid of it because it was too dangerous and didnt trust himself with it Laughing
