Yamaha Rd 125 LC mk3

Hey gang i am new here altho i have been browsing the pages for some time for the odd bit of info.

Anywho. About 2 months or so ago i bought a mk 3 RD 125lc with matching numbers and im the 5th owner woot !!!

I have been doing her up to the best of my ability and just want to ask for some advice.

She was running fine and i thought i would give her a blast home from work and in every gear i would hit 7k rpm and it would start to misfire alot !!! =(( (previously it would redline at 11k rpm with no problems 12k if i really gave it the beans)

I checked the plug and all looks fine however i couldnt really see the spark when i was turning it over, With the plug out and it would give me a small shock from the ht lead/plug cap.

now, could this be due to a faulty coil or ht lead ?

Any help would be great !

The bike if on bikepics under Truzo's 86 rd (yes its a 87 but i listed it wrong lol)

Might be worth checking the alternator components. This can be a weak spot on some of the 125LCs. Water gets past the rubber seal on the clutch cover occasionally. Often a good attack of WD40 sorts the problem.

Coils tend to play up/die a slow death if you ride the bike in torrential rain. Otherwise, they rarely give any trouble. But it's always worth checking the HT lead carefully at both ends and the HT cap itself for hairline cracks.

CDI is possible but very unlikely. They rarely fail.

Before pulling it apart, get new plugs. Sometimes new plugs fails, so buy a few. I had this on my old 350 YPVS, brand new NGK spark plug was duff and playing up.

Hi mate u mite of got some dirt in ya carb which mite be blocking the maine jet.Ive had this problem myself. as long as its still sparking i would look else where hope this helps you

Ok so i looked into it futher and took the plug and cap off my rx-s and bam ! working great now.

Took it for a ride earlier on and she revs like normal now.

Think i may invest in a good quallity cap. any suggestions ?

Here she is, i have done a bit of work since this photo was took but you get the idea.

If you notice, there is no Yeis or "Boost Bottle" Can anyone tell me if they actually make a difference ?

If it looks as clean in real life as it does in the pictures, that's an extremely nice bike. Hang onto it, values are on the up and likely to keep going up (quickly) for decent ones.

This may be the only time that I recommend using a synthetic 2-stroke oil.
