PostPosted: 21:07 - 04 Sep 2010    Post subject: kids snooping around the bike Reply with quote

I'm at my dad's and there were apparently two kids snooping around the bike, I have just been told my my neighbor. Him and his wife came out with torches and they ran off before I heard about it. I would quite like to get hold of them though as this has happened a few times, and if it goes missing whilst he's away then I know who will get the blame.

Any ideas on how to subtly get them back other than turning all the lights off and waiting?

Patience is the key.. They'll be back if they want it, it's just a case of when. Being that they know your neighbours are in, I doubt they will come back tonight or will be stupid o'clock in the morning when they do.

Why exactly would you want them to come back anyway? Other than to break their fingers 1 by 1 with a tin-hammer and then plastic weld their eyes shut (possibly butt hole too, if you're feeling adventurous).

Put a cover over the bike. If that doesn't stop them put one on with a metal weave and hook it up to the mains.

wouldn't that damage he bikes electrical system? Being at the bike is metal, and a conductor of electric?.. Or am I missing a step in between?

I want to get them here to make it very clear that they should leave it alone for good instead of getting away with my neighbor chasing them off and then coming back later.

They are definitely considering nicking it, fortunately said neighbor is a fully paid up member of the twitching curtains club otherwise it would have been gone already I reckon.

If they liked it then why would they only come up at night? And as they've been sitting on it, I still think a chat is in order anyway.

I hope you have a decent chain on it and that it is fixed to something very solid.

+1. This is more ideal, which I'd forgotten to even mention in my post earlier.

Make it as hard to steal as you can, and just try keep an eye out on it.

Perhaps there are times when keeping vicious dogs consumed by their violent nature should be not only permitted, but encouraged.

It's got a great big chain on, but unfortunately it's on-street parking and there's nothing to attach it to.

Dogs and shotguns would be brilliant Laughing

Unfortunately the lamp post is in our "garden", which is not big enough for the bike. We have tried to sort something a few times and the only thing we could think of was the car.

I used to lock my push bike through the wheel of my Dad's car - you may be able to do similar if the chain is long enough.

Any street drains near by? Can loop it through one and through the bottom of your wheel reasonably easily as long as the chain isn't too chunky, just don't drop any bits down the drain!

Of course a drain cover is easily removable but with ~180kg of bike on top of it it becomes a little harder Thumbs Up

Up north is a strange place! No drain covers? next you'll be telling me they like to dunk chocolate bars in batter.

Oh wait.....

Here's what you do:

You cook up all the bacon, sausages etc you have in the house, then lure them out by running around the street with said bacon in a bap.
