one of them mundane what bike posts! Basically im after a bike for commuting that is reliable and will manage a variety of city riding and the occasional short motorway trip. It will be replacing a 125 so needs to be economical so rule out inline 4's. Budget is £750 to £1000

No reason to rule out an il4 as uneconomical, the_godfathers Divvy 600 ran rings around my GPZ in terms of economical-ness.
