can anyone help me i have a 2000 gasgas ec250 it died on me and i havent been able to get anything out of it. it has no spark and i have put in a new spark plug, ht lead, ht cap, new coil, had the magnito rewound, new electric pickup. the only thing that has not been changed is the little black box which i have been told if that is broken then i wouldnt get anything. the problem i have is that if i put a nail in the ht cap i get a spark but when i put a spark plug in i get nothing. i have tried new spark plugs ngk R and the other type of ngk plug. any ideas ppl other than 5ltr of petrol and a match.....

all the ign kill switch and all the electrics at the bars has been taken out (as told to by gasgas as its not needed for the bike to actually run) and they also told me that if the cdi box is on its way out that i wouldnt get anything. thats why im so stuck on it....

Did you change all the parts for new or second hand? Have you checked the resistance of the cap, lead and coil?

Despite what the shop is telling you, if everything else is ok then you need to test the CDI.

all the parts are new apart from the magneto which after talking to a gasgas dealer was told that if i get the original one rewound it would be better than getting a new one due to the age.
does anyone know the voltage that should be coming out the ht lead??

Freakishly high, somewhere between 40,000 and 100,000 volts.

If you attach a multimeter to the lead and turn the bike over it will vaporise the PCB if it is sending out any volts.

You say you get a spark off the cap, Make sure your plug does not have a built in resistance ( post the code on the plug please) and make sure your HT lead is copper cored rather than carbon, also check the plug cap has no resistor in it.
Mags do not like resistors.

right now got a new cdi box as well and it still isnt working. have been looking at the wiring and it seems that i have many that apparently dont go anywhere. i have got gasgas to send me the diagrams but as they can only send me ones for an 06 it isnt much help. is there anyone in west sussex/ surrey with a ec250 i could come have a look at to see what wires are going where.

GasGas have manuals up on their site, not sure for what years though.

Could always try on here

https://www.gasgasrider.org/html/forum.html

I have a 250 but it's a 2006 so might not be much use. Michael J has a 2001 I think but he's been a bit quiet recently.
