So ive offloaded the R1. After doing silly speeds and loosing all self control when im on it ive decided to get rid as i really cant afford to lose my licence. Im in no doubt your all gonna rip me for bein a pussy but i dont care Mr. Green

So im getting an enduro to run along with the vstrom.

Been looking at Kwak KLRs KLXs Yamaha Wr450s and suzuki DRZs ect.

Not to keen on the Kwaks as all i seemed to find is bad reviews on the engines dropping dead leaking oil and knocking there tits off ect.

Not seen many WRs up for sale and the ones that i have seen are either ragged to fuck or silly prices.

Also had a look at ccms but the parts and upgrades dont seem as widely available as the yams suzukis and kwaks.

Been looking at the DRZ range cant seem to find a bad review on them except for the fact there a little underpowered on the road and they only do 90 tops but to be honest i dont need any mroe speed than that and i can use the strom for rallys and long distance riding.

I have found one for £2200 on a 06 plate with 3000 on the clock. going for a lookie tomorrow.

So any opinions on the DRZ series of bikes or any other recommendations of bikes for green lane use and road use would be great. must be ok for light motorway use so i can ride it up the lakes. Thumbs Up

thanks in advance for any posts. Wink

I think you need to decide what type or bike you actually want, There is a huge difference between the WR and the DRZ. WR is a competition bike highly tuned high maintenance etc. the DRZ is alot more mild only 30 something BHP where the WR I believe is 50 something.

I've heard that non-running XT350s are meant to be good Whistle

It's a bit below your price range but I don't mind if you want to pay me £2000 for it.

+1 on the CCM404 though by the way.

Why would you want to upgrade the CCM? Why not get a better bike in the first place if it isn't going to meet your needs Confused.
Regardless, it uses a lot of standard kit (WP suspension, Brembo brakes, Renthal fat bars etc.) A lot is very similar to KTMs.

2 strokes aren't amazing for motorways, but I would still consider a 300cc 2 stroke. These have more power, nicer power delivery and better range of power than the DRZ, weigh less and maintenance is probably going to be similar for similar use - ie you're going to end up doing quite a bit to a DRZ if you're actually competing in enduros, for example.

Apart from the (DRZ) engine dieing in my CCM and a couple of bits falling off, I'm pretty happy with it for what it is.

I would also consider a TE610 if you can find one in your price range - nice flexible engine and good quality suspension. Similar weight to the DRZ.

Remember, holding a big single flat out isn't always ideal - I wonder if too much high speed stuff contributed to my CCM engine's big end going (or I may have just been unlucky).

The WR is a competition enduro bike and has quite nasty servicing listed I believe; though it is relatively at the slow/heavy end compared to a Husaberg or KTM competition 4 stroke.

I'd of bought a husky or a ktm, but unfortunately, I need to make ends meet - only space for one bike; but really I just can't afford those bikes in the condition that I want and I'm too frugal to get something (say a ccm) and use it for 6 months and get fucked over cancelling the insurance.

So I went for the 404 knowing that it has better suspension and engine than the drz and down the line I could upgrade it if I wanted to.

Fuck saving up over summer!

Do you mean upgrade as in change the bike or make it better?
Doesn't seem much worth doing to the CCM.
Seen some decent nick TE610s go for CCM prices easily.

On the bigger bikes - I quite liked my DR600. The XR600 looks like an interesting choice for kick-start bikes and of course there's the seminal XR650R.

Just make it better engine guards bash plates ect

It just worries me if i cant find parts for it on ebay ect. Really dont want to be paying hiked up dealer prices. Had to scrap a bike due to unavailability of parts a few years back.

So whats you opinion on the ccm is it based on the drz ? as im seeing quite a few forum posts with people who have the DRZ E engine in them.

The bikes just going to be used for green laning and occasional road fun.

The CCM has the DRZ-E engine (only big suzuki bit, though it uses the same carb as the DRZ-E too), but with better suspension and possibly a bit less weight.
Mine came with an engine guard fitted, hand guards were also fitted - but as it uses the same handlebars as every non-sports KTM I've seen, you should be fine for hand guards Smile.

CCM also made supermoto wheels and brake adaptor for it - meaning a lot less hassle if you want to go that route. Mine came with the SM wheels.

tbh the exc servicing is nowhere near as bad as it seems. The manual says something like oil change every 10 hours use. That means competition use. Filters would be done every other oil change etc.

You could probably be able to do a change every 1000 miles or so light use for laning, and a 520 has the power to be geared for speed whilst remaining pokey enough for laning.
