Looking for some advice folks. Came back from a weekend in London to find my rear tire had been slashed, but the dick who did it didn't do a very good job.

Ive attached a couple of photos. Is the tire still safe or do I need to replace it?

Cheers guys.

I would personally ride on it as it doesn't look deep at all. There's an inner liner that keeps all the air in, then some mesh stuff on top of that.

It'll be fine.

What tyre is this?

I had an identical slash across a tyre on my GPZ a while back. I rode on it until the tyre needed replacing.

Pretty convinced it is a fault with the tyre and not a slash though.

highly doubt that's someone slashing, you may have run over something a bit odd, or caught the tarmac in such a way, i've seen little miniature cuts very similar on my old tyre. should be fine mate, just watch tread levels.

Lets put it like this.... What would happen if it fails.

Get it looked at by someone who knows about it, rather than expect people to make a major safety judgement call for pics that do not show the full extent of the damage.

Each time that slash hits the road it gets compressed, and then opens up as its free from the road. That is going to generate extra heat, but it is also putting extra strain on the body of the tyre. Could cause it to de-laminate the tread from the carcase.

It just looks like it has dented it?

If it is properly slashed then by all means get it checked, although being a tyre salesman the mech will of course recommend you change it.

I'd probably ride it, but then I can't really see it too well in the photos, it barely looks cut.

To me it looks like you ran over a piece of barbed wire that left an imprint. It doesn't look slashed at all
