What one to get: PS3 or Xbox 360

Right, for ages now the other half has offered to get me either an Xbox 360 or a PS3.

I can't decide which one, if any of them, is what I want. Sad

Personally im an avid PC Gamer, my graphics far exceed the capabilities of both consoles Wink

However, where PCs fail, consoles excel, and hacks are a common annoyance in every PC game i've played online, couple that with the fact that less and less games seem to be specifically targeted at the PC market, it appears that consoles might just be the better gaming system.
Infact some games are just directly ported from other consoles to the PC, Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a prime example of this Evil or Very Mad

So the question is what console do I get? Confused

I've had a 60GB PS3 before and liked it, I still have/play a PS2 so am used to the control pads but sold it to raise funds for a bike. Wink

My pros/cons of the PS3:

PROS:
1. No need to pay to go online
2. Easy to use, very user friendly
3. BluRay (Normal Dvds work too?)
4. Previous use of PS2 makes controls easy
5.Built in Wifi
6. Motion sensor control pads.

Cons:
1.Games were ludricrously expensive (seem to of come down some)
2.Backwards capability didnt work/now removed?
3. Needed 'accessories' to run PS2 memory cards
4. Less people seem to play them?

I've played the 360 a few times but not personally 'owned one'

Pros:
1. Cheaper games
2. Better gaming community (more people)
3.Fairly user friendly
4. New 'Kinect': The 'future' of gaming?

Cons:
1. Xbox Live: Pay to use your own internet connection again??
2. The Red Ring Of Death: Sorted yet Microsoft?
3. Wireless adapter needed

Anyway its been a while since i last purged the console market but is it worth buying one of the 'NEW' Xbox's? Have they actually sorted out any of the issues or am i likely to be jumping on the 'RROD' bandwagon with everyone else?

Also the PS3, is the slimline version better than the old one, if so why? is it worth getting a 120/80gb or whatever they do now as opposed to the older 60gb? Thumbs Up

Choose the one with the better range of games for you.

I have an xbox 360 but it was half the price of a ps3 when I bought it. Not a lot of worthwhile games for it I find. The only reason I'd buy a ps3 is for GT5 but I do fail to see the point of splashing out that amount of cash purely to play one game.

Wouldn't let the ability to play bluray's on the ps3 be a reason to buy one. You're better off buying a dedicated bluray player.

If you find theres no games worth playing then stick with the PC.

The new 360 has built in wifi.

What it really boils down to is blu-ray vs. online gaming/content.

PS3 has blu-ray - 360 has downloadable HD films (you can watch them while they download providing you have 10mb internet)

Xbox live is around £30 a year (if you look in the right places) but you get what you pay for, most multi platform games get content first on 360, sometimes free, sometimes not.

As for controllers, they're very similar and if anything the 360 feels better, more weight, slightly better button layout.

I've got both the PS3 Slim & the XBOX 360 S and to be honests there's not a great deal of difference at the moment.

Best advice would be to ask around your friends and see what they've got, then go with that.

I mainly use the 360 as the majority of my friends that play games are on there

(If you do go for the 360 get the new one as it's got the included wifi and is RROD proof apparently)

End of the day, whichever you buy, you can't go wrong, look at the games you like, most are cross platform anyway, exclusives on PS3 tend to be a bit crap, failing that, pop into your local game/gamestation and ask to have a go on both.

I have massive hands and don't find the controller to be as bad as some suggest.

Isn't the price of XBL going up again? Also the games are more or less exactly the same price for both consoles... just look online for deals - I very rarely pay more than £30 for a game these days.

I have both, my PS3 hardly gets used. Most of my firneds have 360's so the PS3 is only used for exsclusives.

Although you have to pay for xbox live the interface and features is much much better than the PS3's. I would happily pay for the PSN for the extra features.

Yes Xbox live is going up in price, about £1 a month extra.

I have also found most multiplatform games are more optimised for the 360, and theres deffinatly a drop in quality from xbox to ps3 games (despite the ps3 having better hardware).

I would definatly get the new 360 console, in built wireless and a 250GB harddrive. Not heard of any RROD anymore.

pro's and cons for both ( have both myself) it all comes down to like has been said before what all your mates are playing on, so you can join in. With the PS3 recently being hacked aswell that's not so much of an issue atm either (untill sony start to fight back lol) That said tho I think the PS3 controller is utter shite Crying or Very sad

basically it comes down to what games you want and where your friends are. (as a gaming console, anyway. if you want the other stuff like bluray and a web browser etc then that will have an impact on your decision)

i personally got an xbox. because it was cheaper when i bought it (i dont need bluray, wifi etc so why would i pay more for them?) plus i prefer the control.

if you search about on ebay you can get 1years live for £25.

I've played LBP, Uncharted 2, MGS and killzone. Only one that I thought was really good is Uncharted 2. The rest I can live without.

I mainly play COD games or other corss platform games normally involving multiplayer.

GT5 is looking good but what with F1 2010 and COD BO comming out I may not be getting GT5 until christmas some time.
