Had 2 hours on a CB500 this morning, same machine as I'll be doing DAS on next month. Excellent experience, can't wait for the DAS and the test. Massively different experience to the CBT machine, much smoother delivery and way less ratty than the 125. Just need to do it now and get hold of a bike so I can start learning properly. Thumbs Up

Instructor advised me to do my theory test as soon as possible in case I fail on the first day of the DAS and blow the course. If I do it asap it's taken out of the equation next month. Sound advice methinks.

Great stuff. There is a big difference between the 500 and the 125 and when you go through the DAS you get the full day on the big bike at all kinds of speeds, riding around town and riding around the countryside.

When you hit a nat limit you cant help but smile at the speed you reach 60mph on the bigger bike.

Thumbs Up

I've got a year to wait for my 21st, and it happens to be at a really busy time for me.

So it's either do the A2 and wait until i'm 22-23, or pootle around on a 125 for 18 months.

Rock and a hard place Sad

If you are thinking of just riding your 125 for a year and a half anyway why not get the test outta the way now, and its one less thing to think about later on.
Besides if you do it now you won't be in any rush so you can take your time and have no pressure.
On top of that you won't be giving yourself 18 months to learn loads of bad habits before doing your test either Wink

Lucky buggers having DAS at all, its A2 or nothing over here.....

I'm planning it, probably be a while before I can get everything out of the way though. Away from home for a few months soon and I reckon mod2 would be far easier in my hometown (especially with this new independent driving stuff, simple if I know where they're sending me Razz)

You're right about the theory test, get it out of the way. It's easy enough with a bit of preparation. Hazard perception is the only hard part, and that's ok as long as you know what to look for. It's nice to know that there's one thing less to trip you up, one more think ticked off your 'to do' list.

I had my first go on a 500 and wasn't hugely impressed. It was pretty much only to do my Mod 1 and get to the test centre. But on the way home from the test centre after Mod 1, with no worries and an open road I bloody loved it! I thought my 125 was broke when I got back on it after riding a GS500.

Theory test booked for 5th October. No worries about that, but I'll do some work on the Hazard Perception prior to going in. I've been driving nearly 25 years, so I can't see it being a problem, but I'm well aware of reality vs. theory...

I did it this morning, passed but it really is a load of bollocks.
In real life you'd probably slow down 5 times per video with the antics going on, yet if you actually click for them all you'll lose points for the video.

Mine had a van with the back doors open and a ramp going down onto the road, oh but that's not the hazard.

Yeah, I thought that, driving for nearly 8 years, no accidents, no points, no claims blah, blah, blah. Didn't bother trying my hazard perception DVD until 2 days before the test. Failed my first 4 mock tests! Surprised Luckily once you've got the knack of what they are looking for, you should comfortably pass every time.

I used the guide below from ebay. slow as hell on old computers, but the content was very useful. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Driving-THEORY-HAZARD-DVD-ROM-CAR-BIKE-LGV-PCV-ADI-new-/260636296566?pt=UK_Computing_Software_Software_SR&hash=item3caf224576#ht_3518wt_1157

Being able to do DAS rather than ride a 125 for 2 loooooooong drawn out years made me want to buy a bike.

Its the only advantage of being old. That and cheap insurance.

Advice I'll heed. It's only the hazard perception test that's bothering me...
