Recently passed my mod 1 with no minors and only had a little practice on the morning of my test. now i need to tackle the mod 2 and to be entirely honest i'm terrified that i'll cock something up. it's been about 18 months since i did my CBT and my roadcraft isn't really up to scratch... AT ALL. Rather than telling me what the mod 2 entails (because I know that, that's EVERYWHERE) i'm asking for information on procedure at each obstacle (roundabout, 3 lane roundabout, junctions, etc etc etc etc.) exactly what the examiners are looking for. and also i'd like to know what to avoid doing such as what would constitute a minor/major. as much information about what to do and what not to do as possible. just nothing on what the test includes Smile

Stay 1 car's width from parked cars even if it means crossing the dashed line

Halfway between hazards if they're at either side

This might help....

Start at number 11 and work your way through.

Every examinor is different. I got a minor on lane discipline that another could have given me a fail for. But things to make sure you get right are:

Arrow Shoulder checks
Arrow Reading the road correctly (be in the right lane)
Arrow Indicators (make sure you turn them off when you turned)
Arrow Gear selection (wrong gear at lights will cost a minor)
Arrow avoid Undue hesitation (taking a week to pull out)
Arrow Mirror Checks
Arrow Speed limits
Arrow Traffic lights (especially filter lights)

I could go on but there is lots of advice around and I'm sure others will have more to add

Most important thing is to try and relax. At the end of the day you know you can ride, The examiner just has to be convinced you are safe enough to ride without L plates.

Try and enjoy it and good luck

Switch your indicator off once you've stopped on one of the many "Pull over to the side of the road" instructions.

Keep your distance from the car in front. 2 seconds is the perfect gap (4 if it's raining).

Exaggerate head movement for the many mirror checks.

Get the speed limits right. If you lose track of whether the urban street you're on is a 20 or a 30, look for change of limit signs into side streets, unbroken speed bumps, anything to give you a clue.

Pray you're fortunate enough to have an examiner (such as the one I had) who makes helpful suggestions about lane choice when approaching multi-lane roundabouts. I coulda hugged him for that.

Other than that, the obvious. Shoulder checks, life savers, cancelling indicators, etc.

Best of luck.

Observations!

joined a new road? Check both mirrors then increase speed.
changing speed limits? Check mirrors before accelerating or braking.
Going across the mouth of a junction? check mirrors before you get to it

lifesavers everytime your bike changes direction or position.

On your test give way to everything within reason as even if you have priority if you cause another motorist to have to take avoiding action you fail.

Make progress (overtake) but listen to your examiner. If you are on a dual carriageway and stuck behind a string of traffic and he says "in 1 mile we will be turning left" you need to determine if you can pass the traffic and get back into the left lane in the 60ish seconds you have.

Oh and If he suggests something like "we will be taking the fourth exit at this roundabout you may find it easier if you stay in the middle lane" stay in the middle lane. Smile

if you cock up and get in the wrong lane. Go with it. You fail on making faults that could place you in danger or is unlawful. if you end up in the wrong lane at the roundabout take the exit that you are in the lane for. Don't go around again and don't try and cut across lanes to make a turn you shouldn't be making. Worst case you can say you didn't hear him clearly at the time.

Try not to be too hasty Glenben, there's no rush, try to look confident and in control, even if you're shaking like a shi**ing dog inside. Oh man I was green the morning of my test Sick .

I did have a day's tuition the day before which really helped, fortunately my instructor was sound and gave me plenty of confidence.

Good luck.
