KTM 640 supermoto opinions plz

considering a cheap supermoto and fancy the lc4. Around 2001/2002. Ive read the 640 motor is super reliable as long as its serviced correctly? Anything specific to look out for? Any opinions on this one :

Not much help. But there's 2 engine colours, grey and black. And one of them crack between the header pipes... Get your self onto the ktm forum to. Check it out.

I got an 04 Duke 2 640, cracking bikes. As already mentioned, stay away from the one's with black engine covers, they're the one's that fuck up.

What the actual head cracks? Oh dear. I was after something fairly cheap so I guess most for around 1500 are going to be the black motor.
The one above has had a fair few owners at 8 and no real service history but that seems fairly common with this kind of bike especially of that age, anything else out there for sub 2k in supermoto territory?

Mine had 1 owner from new, some 40 year old bloke, you can get them with decent mileage too.

Don't you have a ZX6R G1/G2 ?

I wen't from a G1 ZX6R to this, it's allot more fun to ride and corners like it's on rails. Need servicing every 3000 miles which isn't anywhere near as bad as the SM versions.

I have a J1 Jay, but considering getting a sm to run alongside it incase I dont like it as much/more than the 6r.
Everytime I ride I find myself being drawn more to super twisty/narrow b roads which my bike doesnt cope all that well with so really wanting to try out a suitable b road tool. But still like to hoon it also so ive come back round to the thought of having 2 bikes.
Wanted a Duke initially but then found the lc4 sm as a much cheaper/similar alternative. Service not an issue as do all my own anyways.

That's what I was going to say about two bikes, they're good but sometimes you want to blast it in a straight line and they only top out at about 110. I've still got the ninja to use (sold it to my sister who only rides it on a sunny weekend and is kept at my house when she lives 5 miles away). I got the best of both really but I'm finding myself wanting a litre IL4 now. I'd love to keep the KTM but don't think I will have it much longer.

How much did the 04 set you back? They seem quite overpriced these days, I remember looking at them a couple of yr back and they were cheap at the time.

Paid £3000 from a dealer for it, came with 3 month warranty, 10,000 miles on the clock, full service history and 1 owner. Is genuinely mint and standard except the modded standard cans I just fitted to it.

You can pick them up for less private but I thought the warranty was worth it and wanted to buy from a dealer. Got it from raceways in fleetwood, won customer service of the year 3 years in a row 2006/07/08 and they've been spot on.

In the 3 months I've owned it, it just cut out on me whilst out with TUG off here, they took it back and it was apparently the rocker arm? They put a new one in and replaced the gasket cover/rocker cover? (I'm shit with engines). Then something else went wrong and it was apparently the something bearings in the engine which they replaced.

I haven't been on it for nearly 6 weeks now (2 weeks they had it then I got banned for 4). Get back on the road on Thursday, can't wait, them modded cans sound sexy.

So im still tempted by this ebay one, especially as it may be up for grabs for a bit less than the 1500 start. I know the guy bought it recently for less than 1600 so may be some room for bargaining.
As my budget is 2k at a stretch anyways I could buy this and have a bit of extra cash incase it needs any work.

It looks in good condition for it's age. Nice shiney orange rims as well as a DOMA exhaust which are loud as fuck.

I want about £2,600 for this bike, it's spanking. I would deffo go and see the bike and have a little ride of it and if it's all in order, you got money left over for any work that might need doing.

I had a KTM Duke 640 and although it was fun I got board after a few months. The main issues were; uncomfortable after 30-40 min, not fast enough, no wind protection.

That's the only problem, speed. Trying to keep up with mates on 600/1000 sports bikes on straights isn't fun. Get on the twistys though and you leave them for dust. It's a good "fun" bike but not good for long journeys at all. I found the 40 mile motorway ride back from the dealer a bit exhausting (first time riding it on a motorway).
