Hey guys,

Just bought one of those MD80 cameras for the bike and i'm needing to get a micro Sd card for it.

Now as far as i understand it, Class 6 is pretty good yeah? How different would it be from a class 2? Theres a 4GB class 2 card on amazon that'd do nicely, any ideas if it would be good enough?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Just realised this is the first time i've posted in the geek zone Laughing

the higher the class the faster the transfer speeds.

class 2 = 2MB per second
class 6 = 6MB per second

welcome to the geek zone Razz

For video you would probably need at least class 6 unless you can live with choppy video and tons of frames skipped Razz

That is the general rule of thumb, yeah. BUT, a cheap class 6 will probably only work at around the same speed as an average/good class 2.

If you have money to burn, you could get a posh class 10. But try and find out what the write speed of the device is.

An example is the HTC desire, you could put a class 8 (do they exist?) or a class 10 but it would be completely redundant as the fastest it will write is at class 6 speed. Although the 720p recording will have bad FPS if class 4 or lower is used.

You should be fine with a reasonable class 4 or 6 if you wish. Go for a trusted company (PNY, Kingston etc) so you know what you are getting.

Right ok, just had a look in the instruction manual that came with the camera.
It says it supports 30fps for 720*480........

Absolutely no idea how relevant that is haha Laughing

If you think they are expensive, don't look at a decent sized class 10 Laughing

Expect to pay a lot more than that from a highstreet shop!

If you search on amazon, ebay etc you will find some very cheap class 10 cards (around £20-£40 for an 8-16gb). You may aswell buy a class 2 or 4 as they will probably be a lot more reliable and as quick.

to be honest i may aswell just go for the class 2 4GB from amazon. I'm not expecting mind blowing quality from this camera anyway. And because i'm a tight arse i dont want to spend much money Laughing

I got a 16gb class 4 memory card for my gopro hd and have no frame skipping or any problems at all. Just go for a decent brand and you will be fine with class 4.

Just work it out.

With my FakeD80 you can get about 20 minutes to 1GB. That's 1200 seconds.

That's less than 1MB/s so get a class 2. I've got just some random card in mine that doesn't even say what class it is, and it works perfectly well.

Yes but for the MD80 i think i found out that it will take 8gb max.

As for different speeds on the brands i have no clue.
I would have thought a class 6 from sandberg would be as fast as any other class 6 card.

Manufacturer should(!) mark the device if a minimum speed class is required, otherwise assume Class 2. Generally you only need to go to class 4 and upwards for High Definition video, so you should be ok.

It's nice to see from this thread that the SD Association's attempts to clarify speed markings have come to nothing, can't wait for UHS to happen Smile
