Decided to sign on for the month or so before I go to Canada. I forgot how badly your spoken to if you want to make a claim. I was due to have a meeting today but did not receive the information through the post so I didnt know what time.

So phoned them at 9:30am thinking thats normal opening times for a business and they said "Mr Davies you were supposed to be here at 9am." So I apologised, and continued being courteous and explained the situation, but got a load of shit back, saying I should have been here, and they won't put up with it, I should have been given the info, why wasnt I there...I'd explained about 6 times and they just didn't listen to a word I had to say. They then said well its your own fault, and that I would have to start a brand new claim and go through that hour long phonecall here they ask you every conceivable question they can think of.

At that point I hung up on them thinking Fuck this!! Made me feel like I was back in school getting ordered about. I just got made redundant from a good job and they think they can talk to you and mug you off.

So whoever goes through this system you have my sympathies. I've decided to get a job on my own. Madness that the tax I pay entitles me to this money if I'm out of work but they act as if they are giving me money from their own pockets... I earned the right to get money, It's my money you cheeky bastards.

Anyway I just wanted to have a rant. Feel a bit better now.

Right time to look for work. Wish me luck.

I can kind of sympathize with them though, I wouldn't be kind and curtious to people if 95% of the time I deal with cocksucking parasites who leech off the state and use any and every excuse they can to not get a job/not bother signing on when they are supposed to because they can't be bothered (because the act of getting off ones arse and down the jobcentre itself is a herculian effort, let alone doing a days graft)/making absolutely no effort whatsoever, it's just a shame that when someone genuine comes along they get swept up in it and treated as such.

Didn't you quit your job though, in order to go to Canada? That being the case, I wouldn't have thought you would be entitled to any kind of dole/JSA?

If it wasn't for the unemployed they would be unemployed. I find it helps to remind them of that fact every now and again Thumbs Up

Kind of, but I was actually made redundant, otherwise id still be trying to earn a bit more before heding away. I was entitled, and also willing and seeking work. Doesnt really matter that I am only available for a month, I'm still eligible.

Fuck it anyway, gives me more reason to find a job quickly. Think I may have found a job working in a hotel already so all good.

You have the perks of flexitime. Fuck off.

Contactor.

If I don't show, I don't get paid. No holiday pay, no sick pay, certainly no pension. The only flexi I get is taking unpaid time off.

Nevertheless, I work in the public sector and I'm at my desk for 0800.

Did a gang of nurses, council workers and coppers rock up and treat you to a bit of happy slapping, rubbing your nose in their flexitime slips, buggering you with their gold plated pensions?

You know that private sector workers often have such things as flexitime?

How about you get the massive stick out of your arse and ooh, fuck off?

Oooooh! Touchy!!!

But then again I suppose I would have a massive chip on my shoulder if I could only get a job (an admin job too) in the public sector, and not even a permanent one at that! Razz

I have all of those things, and flexi time. It's great, started at 11 today so I could get some tyres on the way in. Couldn't imagine doing set hours every day.

You could work in the public sector too Jon, it's hardly a tiny exclusive club that needs a Phd in civil servanting to join.

Just ask the buggers if they have a package of info/advice for those about to be made redundant and they go into shock. They can only deal with smeg brains and not pro active people.

Less massive chip, more fed up with the natural assumption that because I work in the public sector, I'm some sort of workshy layabout.

As for only getting a job in the public sector (did I say I did admin?), I've gone where the money is. One of the benefits of owning my own company is that I can do that.

There are shit workers in the public sector. Newsflash, there are also shit workers in the private sector. Given that I have more cause to complain about the service I get from private sector companies, the knee-jerk hate doesn't seem to be justified.

Put it this way, whenever I phone up HMRC, I generally get a helpful answer. Whenever I phone up virgin media, I have to resist punting a cat across the room.

I thought it'd already been established that a pretty hefty percentage of public-sector jobs amounted to nothing more than glorified benefits, intended to keep people off the dole so Labour could massage the unemployment statistics? Confused

Then you don't work in the public sector then - you are a private entrepreneur.

The major gripe people have about PS employees is that they generally have it easier* than private sector guys, yet bitch like they're being shafted senseless.

*Better job security, amazing pensions, less pressurissed environment, no need for commercial considerations, hugely powerful labour bodies etc etc etc.
