Epic album, been a fan since 2000 when i was a young teenager and loved them ever since, mainly because of how they adapt their sound, change and progress, as one thing i can't stand is the same 4 albums in a row (Disturbed anyone?)

Anyways, anyone who is getting it? Heard it already? and general thoughts?

My thoughts are that its bloody fantastic!

Send me a copy Flip!!!

Actually I felt quite old standing watching Linkin' Park at London Arena all those years ago...good gig though, apart from the kiddies not getting a mosh pit going. Amateurs! Cool

Some of minutes to midnight was all right (bleed it out comes to mind), have found most of there new stuff is pretty wishy washy commercialised crap though.

Meteora FTW.

Went and saw them doing minutes to midnight live, to be honest the best part was when they did all there old tracks though. Faint live was epic.

Stuck Kerrang on the radio in the lab the other day as the old gigs who prefer radio 2 were out for the day, a song came on, I asked one of the girls if it was Linkin Park, as it sounded like them, only shitter than usual (post Hybrid Theory of course). Indeed, it turns out it was, and if that song is representative of the rest of the album I'll save the bandwidth.

Top link on pirate bay was downloaded in less than 10 minutes, doesn't sound crap quality either.

Shame I can't say the same about the music, wouldn't want to pay for it, hence posting the link.

Hope they do an Eminem and realise they have made a crap few albums and make an awesome one next.

When's Eminem due to release this 'awesome' album then? I appreciate the tool of anticipation but 10 years is pushing it a bit....

I see most peoples views are those of people who don't like change.

I loved the first two albums and MtM was tough for me to digest at first just like this one.

I just cant stand the same album over and over again, and i also like to have a band who's discography is varied.

Needless to say im loving this new album.

I wouldn;t put it like that, certainly it's good to see a band progress and mature and still produce good music - Metallica being a textbook example, but for a lot of bands they can only operate to a good degree pertaining to a certain formula with little room for negotiation, I think Linkin Park fall under this category. Sometimes bands try and shake things up so much that they might as well be a different band altogether.

Its not about change. I'm one of the few it seems that has liked LP up until this cd. I just dont like this CD regardless of who sung it.

The fact that it was LP was the only reason I actually listened past the first couple of songs. I just wasnt impressed with it at all.

Seemed they were trying to do a concept album but without a concept, judging by the little music interludes etc. Concept albums are very hard to do and to do well as Green Day found out with their American Idiot cd. Good concept but bad album.

I also agree with what Mr Ghost said. Apart from the metallica part. Laughing

I totally agree, maybe this new CD caters to my taste more than yours, but i adore it, had it non stop repeat since i got it! Very Happy

Blackout being my personal highlight!

The reason i like this more is because its different, it was unexpected and i was definitely caught off guard by this album.

Like i mentioned before, i really dislike bands that sound the same for 10 years, for 5 albums running.

Case in point: Disturbed.

This band had a pretty good first CD and all albums since that have been pretty good, Indestructible and Ten thousand fists being my personal highlights, but by the time asylum has come around im totally sick to the back teeth with the same stuff.

All the songs sounded weak, it just felt so familiar that i could have mistaken it for another of their albums.... mainly believe.

So what im trying to say is that LP just has something that captures me everytime!

Part of me agrees with that statement but part of me disagrees. It is a proven theory that change is good for some bands. Floyd being one of them. The floyd machine has seen 3 different front men and each have brought something different and taken them to a different place.

Same with metallica. Early metallica was raw and angry teenage thrash at its best and then the Black album came out and took the band in a different direction. It worked for them even tho I didnt like what happened after the black cd.

Madonna, love her or hate her, has moved with the times and as a result is one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

For some bands change works. For some change doesnt work. Green day being one of them. American Idiot saw changes for the band that a lot of fans didnt find appealing and then 21st century was a step further away from a fanbase that was already dwindling. Latest rumours from the GD camp is a back to basics approach for their next cd. Whether its true I guess we will find out.

But the flipside of the change argument is "if it isnt broken why fix it?"

ACDC being prime example. One of the biggest rock bands of all time by releasing cds that all have the same kind of sound. When Bon Scot died and Brian Johnson took over only the singing voice changed. The music didnt. You listen to any ACDC song and you know right away who it is even if you have never heard it before.

Same with Status Quo. I take the piss out of them by singing "what ever you want" with changed lyrics to "every song... just sounds the same" and I have made a few verses and chorus' that have made friends laugh when I sing over the origional..... But..... Their formula hasnt changed because it works for them.

To me this LP cd has changed and hopefully they will do well out of it but as an old LP liker (not quite a fan) its just a little too drastic for me and I dont like it.

Of course i agree, most definitely.

But i think the problem with LP fans is that most expect a band like LP not to change when they have always shown to do so!

Whether it be EP's, Albums, mix albums or just collaborating with other artists, they have always strived to change with the times and evolved as musicians and i just happen to think it suits the band, others may not, but thats personal opinion at the end of the day.

Some bands work with the same sound, like Lamb of God & Slayer for example.

But i just look at it if i was me, would i want to be playing the same stuff over 25 years? i can barely keep a favourite band over a week without changing my mind, so thats a no to that question, so i dont expect the same of other people.

Overall I have liked every Linkin park album, but I do not like this one.
There are a couple of goodies in there, but on the whole it's wishy washy (thanks c_dug) and weak..it seems like they ran out of ideas an released an album of crap.

Chesters side project 'Dead By Sunrise' debut album 'Out of Ashes' is much better IMHO

My verdict...

Weak shit.

When a band changes as much as LP have they should change their name and not sell crap to the fans that pay for it and expect better.

Lame as fuck. Thumbs Down
