Water melons certainly are tough, but they shatter rather than squash. That is that they have almost no give until they reach breaking point then they smash to bits. So squeezing a melon it will feel like a lump of wood or something, drop on out of a window and it will explode

It's fairly obviously real, not everything is fake, it's the Amazing Race which i've seen before years ago. I'm slightly surprised she hasn't even got a nosebleed though.

After watching that gif over and over and over again, you can see that it mostly hits her in the jaw with only the top of the melon hitting the bottom of her nose. Nose bleeds from being hit tent to happen when hit from the middle of the nose up, which is probably why she doesn't have one. I would also guess that they are using older melons that have started to go softer as they seem to break up easily. I'm not saying it wouldn't have hurt, i'm just saying if it were an unripe melon she'd have been a right mess
