Hi All,

I've seen quite a few threads about bikes being nicked in London recently, obviously this happens and stuff but, is it as rampant as its made out to be?

Normally going to London I goto our Docklands office which has secured underground parking, so no worries with that. However, this time i'd be off to Westminster (near Victoria), and as such would be leaving it parked down a not so busy side street.

I'm trying to avoid the bike got nicked thread, so based on that, has anyone took their pride and joy in to london a lot, left it on a side street and generally found its their when they've got back?

Or are there really armies of thieving cunts chucking bikes in vans all the time?

Other option for me is the Train - or riding to the other office and tubing it across, both seem fairly depressing and slightly pointless.

I've had my bikes parked on the streets of London for 9 months with (touch wood) no problems yet, although however pressed for time I am I never leave the bike unchained.....ever, even better if you can chain it to something unmovable, i am beginning to wish I hadn't posted now as I once posted in a "do bike covers get nicked in London" thread and a month later it happened!

Any chance the office has some sort of car park/off road bay?

Other than that, I'd echo the chain and disc lock sentiments. Best way is always going to be attached to something.

Nah, not a sausage, its Grosvenor Place near victoria if you know it. But i can only see little side streets on googlemaps with bike spots, looks like an ok area but that doesn't mean much.

I guess chaining it to something should help though.

Dumped mine here yesterday(below), not for a great space of time but not a lot of chance for a van to back up to the bikes as it's busy and under a bridge so bike stays dry if it rains.
Bridge place nr victoria station.

I usually leave mine in an NCP when I'm in London. Mainly cos I'm lazy but it's probably a bit more secure too.

I'm guessing it's a nice bike? Question

If it doesn't get nicked it'll probably get scratched to fuck by the scooter possie who'll wedge their scoot so close you can't get it off the sidestand.

I'd park it in a NCP if you do take it. Oh and use a lock.

Its a 2007 600RR which i've had from brand new, its not in perfect nic, but I really like it, so yeah that'd piss me off somewhat.

NCP seems to be looking like the best idea.

There is still the consideration (depending on who else goes to the thing im going to), that I might get the train and have food/beer.

I cant be arsed doing that if I dont particularly like the people going though, but if theres anyone I know I get on with I might do that (as depressing as it is)...

According to met crime map 1 vehicle has been stolen in that area in July. Zero in June.
If you avoid Southwark and west end you'll be fine.

That map is cool but dont you find it interesting they've only targetted a couple of months. They also apply a good dollop of statistics on that map too, crimes per 1000 people etc. Makes it look smaller than it realy is.

I was hoping to see how many cars/bikes were nicked in my area.

Interestingly, last month there was a rather nasty assult on my next door neighbour - funny, the system doesn't show it

Ideally, don't go to London. Or anywhere South. It's rubbish...

I'd agree about London, my sister lives there its horrible, not just the area she lives, the whole lot. I just don't know how people can live in such cramped conditions, on top of one and other.

Things I take for granted, such as gardens, garages, walks in the woods, lunch time runs over the moores are just dreams for Londoners. Sure they earn more money, but our money goes soo much further.

I remember chatting to a bloke in bar in Oslo (Norway) and it was his life's dream to go to London!! I soon set him straight.

Pretty common in london to loop your chain through the next bikes chain if nothing else is available.

Good luck to any thief trying to stick two bikes attached to each other in a van Laughing
