I just moved to Rusholme about 30 seconds walk away from the curry mile. I've read it gets a bit hairy over this weekend, I'll be keeping my wits about me! ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

Guys I spoke to weren't sure if it was going to be Thursday or Friday, but praying that it was Thursday.
I was having a good open chat to a muslim lad about the fasting lark and religion as a whole. It was a surprise on how knowledgable about his religion he was, that the Koran is written in Arabic, which he can read but doesn't understand ( he has it in Urdu to understand it) a bit like us reading Welsh but not having a clue what it means.
It is a shame that some elements of Islam are at the equivalent of BURN THE WITCH that Christians had in this country a few hundred years ago, although some Christians in Africa still do where children are branded witches, beaten, burnt and made outcasts of the village. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. Been a pleasant day at work because of Eid. My muslim buds have all been telling me to cheer up "'cos it's Christmas!!!". Same feeling for them as we get in December. I got loads of invites to the feast, but couldn't spare the time. Never even got so much as a bhaji... ____________________ Responsibility. It's a difficult reality for some. There was a similar Chistmassy atmosphere when we used to live in Cardiff Bay.
There's a huge muslim community in the Butetown area there - (and when I think of it, of course having the mosque sited there helps ) ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

We went to a gig in manchester last year when it was on, after the gig we went to the curry mile for some food. We didn't know it was eid, we thought there had been an accident because of the traffic moving so slow. It wasn't until we got out of the car and found the place was full of muslims (or whatever they call themselves). We were the only white people on the mile, we went into a curry house and got stuck in the corner and got dirty looks off everybody in there. Then the fun started, waiters we having to manhandle people out that tried coming to kick off on us, then one lad stood out side the window kicking off on my boss (big hairy farmer - not a good idea ) boss was just getting up to see what his problem was when somebody ran upto the lad took him to the floor then dragged him off.
In short stay away from there lol. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

I've always considered stories like that to be urban legends. I've lived around predominantly Muslim areas a few times and been to assorted establishments during festivals and wedding parties (not as a guest, just happened to be in the area).
In all of those times I have never had someone kick off at me, nor even felt anyone wanted to and having worked the door for a good few years I'm fairly sensitive to such things.
Had a few problems with a local "gangster" while I was in Sparkbrook but it was quickly dealt with by the locals. If the area hadn't been so built up and lacking a garage then I'd still be living there now, much better in terms of community than where I am now. ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

That's all truth mate. Maybe it was the nobs that were out that night. Only found out that it was eid when we were there because my boss was talking to a mate of his that's a copper in Manchester, he said that the station hate it because of all the problems it causes. And that half the nick try and get time off when it's on because they don't want the hastle. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6
