| Quote: | A British firm has claimed the world's hottest chilli pepper crown, a fearsome beast clocking 1,176,182 on the Scoville scale.
Fire Foods of Lincolnshire is responsible for cultivating the Infinity Chilli, which tests at Warwick University confirmed as the planet's most potent. The previous record holder is the bhut jolokia, which measures a mere 1,041,427.
The company has unleashed this weapon of culinary destruction on the form of its Infinity Chilli Sauce at £6.50 a bottle. It cautions that it's "in the process of getting another batch tested which we believe will be even higher" on the Scoville scale, so consider yourselves warned.
The Scoville scale was developed by Wilbur L Scoville as a measure of the capsaicin concentration of peppers and pepper sauces. An alcohol extraction of capsaicin oil is mixed with increasing quantities of sugar solution until the burning sensation from the chemical is no longer discernible on the tongues of a panel of five testers.
The final figure awarded represents the dilution required to kill the pepper's "heat", so the Infinity Chilli capsaicin must be "watered down" by a factor of 1,176,182 before it loses its effect. |
I doubt you'd notice the difference though, be like drinking 4 star petrol and unleaded and being able to discern a difference. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I like hot food. Not insane, just spicy. I'd eat a vindaloo at a restaurant, but usually choose not to cos they are often hot just for the sake of being hot not tasty.
Yesterday I ate a chicken and rice dish, with a level teaspoon of chilli pickle mixed in. This was home made chilli pickle, made with Ghost Peppers (the Naga Jolokia mentioned above)
Took me about 30 mins to eat as I had to wait for the pain to subside between mouthfuls. Mostly panting like a dog with my mouth open.
Got an adrenaline rush that lasted till the evening, and had a really good session at the gym.
Felt a bit dodgy in the evening, had a pint of milk and settled down on the bog with a newspaper for a while. All good.
Pretty much ruined the porcelain this morning, gotta admit that was a bit sore.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that it would kill you. |
I've never had the urge to try hot food, the last time was when i had a kebab, the guy drenched it in this sauce & i was trying so hard to enjoy it but it was far too hot. I can see why people like hot food if it's not hot enough so you need to stop, but when the hotness is overpowering, i find that a bit odd.
I'm off to watch Youtube videos of people eating hot chillis. |
