I can add BSc after my name.
Results were supposed to be out on the 7th but have only just been given out on line now.
So I guess it means I'm not a student any more
Big bad world here I come.
Thanks to all on here who have given me help when I desperately needed it

10.5k? Shame. I got a bargain on a BSc (Hons) this summer for free. They're practically giving them away, all I had to do was fill in four years of questionaires, play about with some drugs in a lab then write a long poem about it.
Uni was a stupid choice for me as I'm a hands on person, but I stuck with it despite wanting to quit after 3rd year (seemed silly to leave it out).
So now I'm ultimately applying for jobs I'm qualified for but don't want, and jobs I'd rather do over science but don't have experience. Woot. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

Well done mate. Only 13 weeks until I'm finished (stupid 3 1/2 year course).
Don't actually get marks until March though. |

I've seen many decent waged (22k+), entry level jobs for those with BSc in various scientific disciplines so the "completely worthless" thing can just be ignored.
On the other hand, these jobs can be extremely competitive, particularly those which are not SPECIFIC to the science you studied.
Graduate schemes also quite competitive and since I slacked somewhat in semester 2 of honours, I didn't achieve the 2.1 minimum they require.
I have friends who done biomedical science (isn't that what you done?) which is apparently quite difficult to get a job in at the moment, so instead the best course of action is to apply for clinical, lab tech/asst and research jobs at entry level. In my area most of these fall within the 18-22k/year wage that the university said was a typical starter wage.
Of my friends with honours degrees:
Well paid engineer, graduated 2 years ago with a 2.1.
Excellent paid computer guy, graduated this summer with a 2.1.
Well paid oil scientist (last time I spoke to her anyway), graduated ~5 years ago in Forensic Science with Law (essentially the same basic course as I did, but with non-core chemistry modules replaced with 1 extra legal module each year. I replaced the non-core law based modules with extra chemistry) not sure on her classification but I think first class.
2 work at the same company after doing general computing BSc and get a decent salary around 20k-ish, though one is in a more senior position. Another one who done the same course spends all his time abroad seeing the world, and hasn't so much as tried to get a job at home.
1 works as a draughtsman earning just shy of 30k/year. Graduated about 4 years ago.
Another of my friends graduated without honours after 5 years (kept resitting a 2nd year module in maths!) in electrical engineering. He had to switch from BEng to BSc, but he now has a job as a project engineer earning 20k, which goes up to 25k next year.
Most of my non-higher educated friends are stuck in dead end jobs earning <20k/year (some on minimum wage in supermarkets or restaurants) with little chance of promotion in the next 10 years. One of them done a 4 year apprenticeship to get there as well, and has to work overtime nightshifts to support him and his pregnant fiancee. Another also has a young child and part-time partner earns 18k before overtime after 4 year apprenticeship as an electrical engineer (or something).
2 of my good friends and several acquaintances have very well paid jobs from offshore apprenticeships, and I can't say I don't regret not looking into this career when I was a young warthog. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

Such a typical non uni student quote.
I'm not sure if it is jealousy, but not every graduate is like that and most of the time it is down to the individual and not down to their education. I don't know any of my fellow school mates who didn't go uni who earn more than me, but then I don't really give a toss.
As for my mates who did graduate, most (over 75%) are now in well paid jobs, but you have the few who didn't try and are now on minimum wage/unemployed. Like I said, it depends on the individual and we have only got BA's.
Does it really matter how much you earn and whether you did a degree? No. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
