If you are caught with no insurance, can they crush your vehicle?

I know with no tax they can, no license etc but I thought no insurance was just big fine and 6 points on average.

If it is taxed, motd and you have a license then I am sure they won't but someone I know claims the police threatened him with crushing his vehicle.

They can impound the vehicle if it has no insurance. They will also offer you to sign it over to them.

If you sign it over it will get destroyed.

And charge you a ridiculously high amount to get it out. If you don't after an amount of time they will crush it.

Yes but surely you can get it back after if you pay a fee and pick it up either by getting insurance and riding back or a van.

Even if you didn't it would be sold.

It isn't like with no tax where if you don't pay it is just crushed.

Ultimately yes.

They confiscate the vehicle at the roadside, you then have 14 days to pay their tow fee and impound charges and present a valid insurance. If you don't then it can be crushed.

Alternatively you can sign away the vehicle at the roadside for immediate disposal (for real bangers)

Riding without insurance is, in my view, a much more serious offence than riding without road tax and if one of these offences should carry the risk of having the bike crushed then it should definitely be the former. This of course isn't the case because as we all know, not paying your tax is very, very, very serious.

Exactly, the government clearly usues the money for a good cause so we should always pay tax., I mean look at the quality tarmac we ride on.

I taxed mine twice this year because they did such a good job on the local roads with that lovely gravel topping, I didn't think £60 covered my fair share of it.

I believe as the law stands there is a grace period after seizure where you can produce insurance documents and they will return the vehicle. If you don't produce documents, then they'll crush it.

It is not the police that fine you it is recovery companies charge and storage costs. the police receive no money from it. as previously mentioned you get 14 days in which to produce valid insurance for the vehcile to have it released.

pretty sure you can 3-4 day insurance online for bikers, Aimed at people going on euro trips but it will be valid

£105 plus £12 per day storage, last time I saw that offered. Not to me I hasten to add, clerical error on mate's insurance cost him loads of dosh.
