Is this quick?

Got no clue about internet speeds and stuff. I was downloading random crap and I noticed the speeds were pretty high. Mine are normally around the 400 mark.

It was about 3000 for most of the download and then at about 85% it started to rise until it peaked at over 7000.

Is this what I should usually get or is this some sort of anomaly or what exactly is going on, also I didn't pause the download or anything which I have heard can make spikes like that.

Hasn't come out very clear but the bottom one says 7623.3KB/s and the top one says 1501.1KB/s.

To be honest if you were going to comment on any of the uk rap crap the plan b album is 1000 times "worse" that anything dizzee has done in the last 5 years.

In fairness that dizzee one was to go with the DJ software, its the acapella version.

Up to 8Mbps (i.e. "normal" consumer broadband) will give you ~1024KB/s at best in theory. In all actuality many users are on something like 256KB/s (2Mbps). Even the fastest ADSL products will only do a theoetical 24Mbps (3096KB/s).

You got ~12Mbps on the top download, but 59Mbps on the second one.

If it weren't for the fact i've just had a 50Mbps line installed myself hence be aware it's possible to do so for less than hundreds of pounds a month, i would be amazed at the speed.

Think mine is an 8 meg line, not sure, but I know it hasn't been upgraded in the two years I've lived here.

I don't doubt the speeds though, stuff is downloading ridiculously quickly.

144.8 MB in less than 15 minutes, I think around 10. Not sure if this is actually considered quick, but it is much faster than what I usually get.

Also no pauses or stops or anything like that, just told it to down load and 10 minutes later I'm listening to Linkin Park.

Your connection is normal and what you'd expect for an 8Mbps product. You're obviously close to your local ADSL exchange, which is why you're getting most of that 8 megabits. Your ping is a little on the high side for ADSL imo, but not to the extent of it annoying you i imagine.

Of course, the real test of an ISP is when you repeat said test during "peak" hours (i.e. between 6 and 10pm on an evening, when most of their users are blitzing their connections).

I live in a shared house, one house mate plays COD4 on xbox and one plays all sorts of PC games on-line, if all three of us are on at the same time it slows right down.

If nobody else is in then it doesn't seem to change no matter what time of day.

Anyway, I will be happy with my download speeds now

At hose speeds the 92MB would have downloaded in around 25 seconds. If it didn't, it was misreporting. If it did, it was probably coming over the local network.

I've genuinely had speeds like that, but only ever off academic networks.

It's not the speed of your connection that makes most difference, it's the source that's hosting the data. It's down to their usage and speeds more than anything. Unless it's peak times.
