So, I'll start by saying I'm generally a massive wuss when it comes to returning things.

This morning I've had one set of wet balls too many, and the HG trousers I bought about 4 months and 2000 miles ago are going back. Along with the matching jacket that gives you wet arms.

How are they with taking things back? i.e, will they want to argue & give me a replacement, or just give me the money back (my preferred option).

Things are slightly complicated by the fact that I've melted a hole in the bottom of one of the trouser legs, presumably they won't try and argue that this means they let water in at the crotch?

It depends how long you had to return the items...it should say on the receipt. Read that and see what it says.

You should always take things back immediately if unsuitable. I would say you could try, but 4mths later is taking the piss a bit.

The holed item will be something you will have to suck up though...! Damaged goods will only be taken back if damaged through the post. Not done by you.

HTH. Thumbs Up

They may be awkward as you want a full refund.

Normally a failure of waterproofing is repairable under warranty or exchangable. Otherwise you're trying to go down the sale of goods act and say that the goods are not fit for purpose, in which case they can still offer to repair and replace the product before agreeing to give you a refund (should further pairs be disappointingly wet).

I replaced my gloves after a low speed drop (causing the leather to tear open at the seams) using the sale of goods act without a reciept and they got right royal arsey about it so I whipped out the print outs of the act that I had made in preparation for dickishness with pertinent bits highlighted in yellow.

Guy on the counter backed down in the end and gave me an exchange on a new pair of gloves.

Most hg stuff has a 2 year warranty if you have the receipt it should be ok.

Still got the reciept. Don't desperately mind them changing the things, but I imagine I'll be back the first time it's raining properly.

They're just badly designed, the covers on the vents face forward, and the zips aren't waterproof, so even closed the jacket lets in water in heavy rain.

Will have a crack on saturday when I can get down in the car.

I had a problem with a Arai helmet from HG that fell to bits on its first outing. It was only resolved when I mentioned Trading Standards.

I suspect you may be stuck with regards to the trousers given the damage to them. As far as the jacket goes, I'm not sure what HGs policies are but I suspect you'll have more luck going for a replacement jacket or credit towards a better one.

Either way, just don't go in guns blazing screaming for your money back, that's the best way to make a sales rep not want to help you. Be reasonable and let them explain their side and what they can do about your leaky gear. Good luck Thumbs Up

The guys at my local HG have always been more than helpful - can't do enough for their customers. also been to HG Cheltenham once, and had a similar experience.

As long as you have the receipt, I don't see any problem
