Yeh rofl, it's not so much a case of "you know what i REALLY want?! I want a shite helmet"! it's more that when i grab the "your 17" money off my grandparents (no we're not rich but it was intended for car/bike", ill have about £800 to play with in getting setup; so I was assuming 400 for bike, 150 for insurance. 100 for test. 50 for shit jacket/50 for helmet. I have a little leeway for maybe an extra £150.. but I'm really hoping not to dig into that, would be good to do it all myself, if you get the appeal in that type of bollocks ;D
Thanks again for all your help guys
And yeh been riding the cg around the drive a few times when i visit my dad... i'm really comfortable doing hill starts/ U turns up hill etc... just pmuch cannot wait for this year to go by! Been in love with bikes ever since i can remember thinking "holy hell i want to do that when im older" about anything at all. |

I'd honestly start saving up. Gear is what keeps you safe in unfortunate events.
£400 for a 125? Quite hard to find a good one for that price... Or do you already have one, with the riding around on the CG on the drive...? ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Well my dads not exactly well off at the moment, so when he plans to upgrade his cg to an Enfield at about christmas time, he will basically NEED a certain amount of money for the deposit, he'd give it to me for free if he could purchase his next bike without (he recently passed cbt so getting into the swing of biking) 3-400 smackers. Yeah I am saving everything I get, but no luck with the job applications at the moment, but i'll keep trying.... i'm not a moron, i do want proper safety gear; but if its cheap jacket/jeans or not ride for a few months... I just couldn't stop myself from going out without all the gear. But yeah I am saving, and I really dont plan to go longer than a month without proper boots/leggins.
The cg is about 20 years old, been round the clock once, maybe even twice tbh... but because my dads been using it for the last month, will do for a few more.. hes found (and been forced) to repair all the niggling/serious issues... so i'm probably going to be getting a perfectly sturdy model! fingers crossed eh? |

How it works, I've no idea!
I think Devitt insurance are underwritted by Direct Line, or they share the same underwriters in RBS. Something like that. They're quite reputable anyway. |
Funnily enough, it was Devitt i went for in my first year of biking (same situation as the OP), and they were quoting £110 TPO then too (same price to boot). Or £200 TPFT, and as i said, i took the £200 quote (TPFT). They were OK for a first year cheap insurer.
Second year i found the cheapest was Quinn Direct (still on the CG), and had to cancel that when i upgraded to a CB5 (they weren't reasonable for big bike quotes) and i've been with Carole Nash ever since (i've found it's best to call them last, i.e. after everyone else, because their initial quotes are often quite dire, but they are brilliant at price matching other companies). I'm saying this in the hope the OP might remember in future years and things haven't changed, so he can save a few bob. ____________________ -- Ingah |

Does having an immobilizer installed along with an alarm decrease insurance costs? If yes, how do you go about presenting the wonderful fact to the insurance company(s)?
I do have a warranty for my system - GT 971, on the same page there are graphs such as installation date, alarm model, stamp and installer signature (I intend to assemble it myself ) & so forth. ____________________ "Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase.
