Hey all.
I am recently returnded from a short trip to Tunisia with my girlfriend which didn't turn out as we had hoped due to a nasty tummy bug . We were only there for a week and didn't really get to do much of anything.
So I had thought about taking the ferry over to England, or even just flying over. I have a pretty good idea that London would be worth a trip, the zoo, Houses of parliament, Tower Bridge, Tousaudes, West end show, Hamleys toy shop lol.
What is Blackpool like? I was there many years ago when I was small, and only remember some sort of walk through a forest with light animals around the place.
It would only be for a long weekend, so as long as there is enough to keep us entertained.
She loves animals, so any animal sanctuary/zoo type things would be good, I think I heard of a seal sanctuary on the east coast about the same latitude as Blackpool?
Any ideas or opinions? ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

Urgh! you really want the typical tourist attractions? Sorry - cannot help you at all. I am more into your castles, ruins, follys, Abbeys and beautiful views. I have a huge list of must visit places in the UK (if it's natural FREE beauty you are after). ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

My favourite view of England might be this, while travelling on a departing ferry. LOL ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Scenery, castles and all that jazz can be found a plenty here in Ireland, so yea it's the cheesy touristy stuff I'm looking for lol.
That monkey world looks pretty good indeed.
Blackpool may have it though, as it's pretty easy to get to by ferry for us, and I should hopefully have a trailer made pretty soon so we can pop over on the bike. ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

London is a great city. But if she likes animals get down to Longleat House.
It's a must to drive through the monkey enclosure laughing at the destruction they cause to other peoples cars.
Until........

Doing handbrake turns to shake the little buggers off is frowned upon apparantly. Fortunately this little fella just wanted a ride on my rear wiper. |

It's a fucking shithole. The pleasure beach theme park is ok, and the haunted house thing with live actors is a must as it does make you shit yourself, a real good laugh.
Other than that it's full of absolute tossers getting lagged, think it was about 3pm we walked past a place and there were people slumped up on the ground covered in vomit. If you are looking for something to eat other than fish and chips I suggest you bring a packed lunch because we had to walk a mile and a half before we found even a fucking pizza hut, even my iPhone "Around Me" app couldn't help with this one. All this whilst wading through crowds of pissed up idiots, I remember getting some cash out of the cashpoint and there were groups of different people, and they were walking past screaming their heads off at nothing and no one for no reason whatsoever, just walking along "WAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHH!", it was ridiculous.
I will never go there again, save perhaps a quick day trip to the fair and the pier, other than that it should be burned to the fucking ground, a truly fucking awful place.

Go to Alton Towers, it fucking rocks.
Stay in one of the hotels there, eat far FAR too much of the all you can eat breakfast buffet, then get out to the park where you can share the breakfast love all over the wating/watching crowds as you fly past on the newest, pant-shittingly good ride.
If that's not your idea of a quality weekend out, then I don't know what this world is coming too!

Absolute rubbish. London is fantastic you'd be foolish not to go there. Just don't try and drive |
No its not. Its full of people who live there who are under some sort of mass delusion that it is the greatest place on earth. I think it is grubby, unfriendly, claustrophobic, uncomfortable, expensive and dull.
The only reason there are attractions in London is because it is the capital, and they aren't the greatest.
Madame Tussauds? Expensive and overrated, with crap sculptures of celebs.
London Eye? Huge ferris wheel. You can see the same view from a tall hotel, not that you'd want to. The Gherkin is vaguelly OK to look at but I wouldn't make a special trip and I wouldn't spend the amount of money it costs to go to the London Eye just to get a view of it. Especially when you can see it for free.
Theatres? Campy musical theatre based on old music. Expensive and overrated.
London Zoo? Worst zoo I've been to. Colchester Zoo is half the price and far far better. Chester Zoo is the very best zoo that I've been to in the UK, and I've been to a lot of zoos. Paignton Zoo is about the third best.
Hamleys? Its a shop! A shop is a shop?! Harrods is dull as dishwater.
Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament are nice to see in the flesh, but once you've seen it thats it. You can't get anywhere near Parliament, and tower bridge is just a bridge at the end of the day. Same with Buckingham Palace. Its a big building with the Queen in it which you can't really see. Its better to go somewhere like Longleat house where you can go inside. Longleat has other stuff to do as well, like animals, a maze, and various other things.
London is extraordinarily overrated and as far as I'm concerned, it always has been. The most impressive thing for me in London is actually the underground network, which is impressive for two reasons: 1. The tube map is a work of art
2. How do any of the underground lines keep running in the state that they are in?
I'd happily never go to London ever again in my life, however I have to go there for work which is a pain. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Your life is a bundle of happiness isnt it. |
Actually it is, because recently I've been going to leeds for work which is comparatively very nice. And if you know leeds, then you know that isn't really saying a lot!!
Seriously, I really really really can't understand why anyone would ever stick up for London as a place to go. Its overcrowded and dirty and has a lot of crime. Sure, you could say the same about south east England in general, but nowhere is it concentrated and distilled as much as London.
I am generally a happy person, but I dislike people who like things just because everybody else claims to. London is not a nice place in any way, and its minor saving graces seem to stem from the fact that it is the capital city of a european country.
If you want me to say something nice I'll say that Lincoln is a nice town, I like the countryside, Chester Zoo is a good zoo, Longleat House is a nice place to visit, the Tank Museum in Somerset is interesting, the Fleet Air Arm museum is one of the best aviation museums I've been to yadda yadda, but I can't really think of anything nice to say about London. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
