Let the owner ride and you listen, or go on the back. |

My first bike was a non-running twist & go moped I was told I could have it, if I could fix it... tested it to destruction round the back garden over the following three years!
First decent bike, I bought, a mate test rode. I was only 15 and it was a 250.... not that it made much difference, bike wasn't road legal, it was a comp-trials bike.... AND I STIL HAVE IT!
Next one..... err.... not sure.... think I got it in PX for a Yam I was given. Was a DT50, & It fell to bits shortly after being dropped off the trailer! I got it to have a play with & fix up though, so didn't really expect it to be much good!
One after THAT, I bought brand-New!
After THAT?!?!?!? Well, I had passed my test by then & bought from dealers with a warranty!
Most recently, just had a raz up and down the road, and hoped not to get cought, If I've ridden them!
REALLY you ought to get some-one that knows bikes to go with you and try it out.
I mean, your a learner, right? EVEN if you rode it yourself, would you be able to tell if it worked good or not, or whether noises were right or not? ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I've never been insured on a bike that I've tested (private sales obviously). You just hope for the best. |

I would have said everything that has been written above...another idea would be to take a mechanically minded friend with you, who knows what to look for...
I remember when I bought my car, the bloke popped the lid to show me the engine, and I looked at it, thinking...'well there's the engine'! Not a lot of use when you have no clue... ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I brought my dad who had his own bike and he test rode my SV650S. He said it was great. Although mine was only 2 years old with 1500 miles on it ____________________ Passed Mod 2 - 6th August 2010

I've always gone on the back listened to the bike and generally had a good look over. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
