Ok, this is a stupid question. I am sorry. When I came onto this forum I am sure I read some where giving you bike full throttle every so often cleans some thing out or does something beneficial to the bike (engine or exhaust? Cant remember). But I am a nub and cant remember.

So yeah, Nai's dumb question of the week. Does giving your bike full throttle for a couple of mile a day do anything beneficial to the bike?

I don't know whether it does the bike any good or not, but it sure makes me a feel a lot better.

If you're not going full throttle on a 125 every time you ride it, there's something wrong.

I agree with both! The only problem I have found is when you move on to a sports 600 after being accustomed to riding a 125 like you stole, you seem to ride the 6 the same way Laughing only had it for a month and am wondering how long my licence is going to last Laughing

Its a nippy lil thing, doesn't struggle to do any speed up to 65ish, most of my journeys filtering so I can never get up to good speeds, its cheap as chips to run, and most importantly, I need this thing to last Smile

As long as I am doing the bike good, I am happy Smile

Thanks for the replies guys. Here's hoping I can get this thing up to 50k miles before it needs help. 3.5k so far and have not had a problem post first 50 mile. Smile

Ahh you will get bored of the 125 soon enough , I managed 2 years on my RS125 and am glad I got my full licence and a bigger bike.

My practical (cheapass) side is far to over whelming. Razz

I would consider a 250cc someday so I can get to 70 without pinning the throttle back, but if I am doing 10K+ 'city miles' a year, fuel economy is at the front of my my mind. Smile

My bike gets ragged to high hell, even if it's 30MPH all the way to the shops!!! Razz

Oh the joys of a little bike. Seriously though, it makes you want to keep a bike well maintained.

I only used 2 throttle positions on my CG, closed and open!

Still, it never missed a beat!

When I was in getting tyres for my car recently, there was a poster in the waiting room of the garage which said that you should rev your car engine to the redline about once a week.

Preventing a build up of carbon on the valves is generally a reason to thrash an engine every now and then

My driving instructor told me to redline the car before the mot in 3rd down a dual carriageway as it cleans the emissions out (in simple terms) so it will pass.

diesels do benefit from having the particulates blasted out on the way to an MOT
