Was out on my pushbike and cycled past a curry place ... now it being dinner time too ... I thought ... mmmmmmmmmmmm chicken korma* Smile

Now I never (well v-v-rarely) get takeaways, but this time I just thought that smells nice, WTF.

Right so a couple of people were in there and the dude was on the phone to a phone-in order ... as the order was taken he asked where to deliver and the guy must have said he'll pick it up ... the curry dude said, ok, should be ready in about 40mins .... Shocked

FORTY mins ... there was no way I was going to wait 40 mins + cookage of the guy in front of me and mine too, so what 50-55mins all in!?!? - salivating!! ... so I walked out again and saved myself what a tenner and about 4000callories!! Very Happy

What is the longest you would be prepared to wait/have waited for an impromptu curry??? Thinking

I'd have waited 10 mins ... but 50+ no ways!! Razz

*only curry I will eat

I'd always ring first. An hour is about the norm at a decent place I thought

I would think that 40 mins is about right, assuming their cooking everything fresh...

I mean, you could get something that vaguely resembles a curry in 10 minutes or less, but in that case there'd probably be a tin opener involved somewhere

Friday evening, surely you would keep the most popular dishes (like a korma) rolling 'at risk', you wouldn't need to start when you get an order for one?!!? Confused

I thought they tended to prioritise so that the phone orders are told to collect in 40 mins, but if you order at the counter you only wait 15 mins and they juggle the orders behind the scenes. Seems to work that way in my local curryhouse and chinese Thumbs Up

Most curry houses round my way are on average 20 mins for a pick up, max I've experienced was 40.
I really need to cut down on my take-away food though I'm starting to put on a few pounds again Crying or Very sad 16,1/2 st (I'm 6' 3" though)

Interesting ... I would have asked him how long the wait was, but with another person in front of me and him still on the phone (must have been 5 mins whilst I was in there!) I just CBA ...

Worth considering next time though!! Thumbs Up

My mate worked in a curry house a few years back, and said they just had a few base curry sauces constantly cooking so all they had to do was add the relevant meat and spices as necessary. Which meant it just took a few minutes to churn out.

I live in Oldham. Plenty of curry shops to choose from, I doubt any of em have more than a ten minute wait.

Thats exactly what most places round here do, even with phone orders longest I've waited stood at the counter is 15mins. They do serve people in the shop first usually.

Also the 40 minute thing is a load a tosh, I've ordered take away before like Pizza etc, and I've had it within 20 mins to my door. They just say a vague time so when you get it quicker you're happier.

I usually go to Sainsbury's or Asda and get one of their fresh made curries from the counter. They're less oily and are surprisingly tasty.

Set it out cold on a plate and microwave for 5 mins.
