First time I have ever been hit by a car, and it was the police reversing into me. An armed response vehicle at that.

Now my chips are cold, I was on the way home from the chippy at the time.

Only damage is the clutch lever is snapped off and useless.

You know its going to be your fault right? I.e. it changes into a you were reversed into. Into you hit them.

Unless you can find some CCTV evidence and or independent witnesses as the word of cops vs you odds don't look good... perhaps you would like o purchase some vaseline?

Well the police admitted it was their fault, there is also 5 or 6 witnesses from the road too, luckily it was the road 1 down from where I live so I sort of know the people who saw Smile

TBH I am not sure if they hit the wheel or the forks. It all seems alright but going to get it looked over anyway just to be sure.

Thought the police didn't have insurance and it had to go through court or something?

Nope, they just pay up. Like a lot of big organisations, they lodge a massive bond at a bank somewhere as 'insurance', but unless there's an argument about liability they just pay up out of normal funds.

I would rather not claim, because the 2 coppers in the car, and their Sgt who came down seemed genuinely nice fellas, but alas I can't afford to get my bike fixed and checked over at the moment, as I am skint, so I decided I would have to put a claim in.

Not going to take the piss, only claiming for the actual damage to the bike that was done there, not anything else.
Currently waiting for the Police to get back to BLD with their side of the story etc.
I'm can only assume they'll stick to what they said and admit liability, or they'll change their minds and I'll get reamed Very Happy Soon see one way or the other!

Sorry, but that's a contradiction in terms saying that you're not going to take the piss but then saying that you're using a claims management company. Laughing

Well a claims handler has a bit more clout than the layman having a go at it himself.

No skin off their nose - they've already reported the PolCol and his police license will/won't get points depending on the information already gathered at the scene. Whether or not you get cash out of it won't affect the officers at all - unless it's enough to bankrupt the force they probably won't even hear about it again.

I doubt it'll break the bank, but with the budget cuts who knows eh? Very Happy

You've claimed through your insurance for a clutch lever?

I bet the money you save on the lever by not paying for it yourself, is outweighed by the increased premiums you'll be paying for the next few years.

You shouldn't lose any NCB for a non-fault accident, but you've still shown your insurer that you're a "risk."

Hmm wonder if they would be so polite if you backed your car into a police bike ?
Prob get some silly neg driving charge or something ?

Still can see you side if they were good about it .....but if they can't be held to a higher standard then who can.....OK now I'm conflicted
