 |
|
Bought a mitsibushi pajero from ebay on thursday, drove it 60 miles back home and all was well.
Friday when i started it up it sounded like a bag of hammers, so i've stripped it down to find that the crank bolt hasn't been tightened properly (no locktight either) so it's come loose and snapped the woodruff key out of the crank. It's also took a huge chunk out of the crank aswell so it's basically completely fooked
The car was advertised as just having new timing belt kit fitted.
The car was sold as seen and payed for in cash (no paypal involved)
What's my options then? i'm assuming there's nothing i can do and have to cover all the costs myself/scrap the car ?
Thanks
Dave |

Sold as seen is a load of bull, it was seen as fit for intended purpose which it obviously isn't.
Park it in their front room and ask for money back ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? i fail to see how it's ''fooked''.
just get a new woodruff key and dress the keyway, then tighten it properly. the key is just there for alignment. the taper holds the flywheel on. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. There is that, the ford zetec engines don't have a woodruff key or anything, just held on my tightening it to within a few psi of its life. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? He never mentioned in the listing that the handbrake didn't work, and when i got it home i noticed it had no exhaust back box on it
But other than that it was as described.
I only paid £870 for it and it's still got a lot of parts that i could sell on so i'll get something back.(it's a pajero exceed so has all the toy's)

No. If you buy privately then there is nothing about the vehicle having to be fit for purpose.
Buyer beware: so before buying a vehicle it would be wise to get a test drive, to have a good look over the vehicle and ask the seller lots of questions. If buying on eBay you have to do all that before bidding or if the vehicle is a long way away and you don't want to do the journey twice (once to inspect and then again to collect after winning the auction) you can ask them lots and lots and lots of detailed questions before bidding then inspect the vehicle when you go to hand over the cash. If the vehicle doesn't match their answers to your questions then you quite entitled to just walk away and the seller wouldn't have any legal recourse.

The legal principle of caveat emptor, or 'buyer beware', operates. You have no rights to expect that goods be of satisfactory quality or fit for their purpose, but there is a requirement that they should be 'as described'. You should check goods thoroughly before you buy them. |

Cranks aren't cast nor hardened steel they are forged. What does that pulley do? Looks like a pump drive for AC or power steering etc.
If it doesn't depend on the keyway for timing the belt, this is what I would do:
Buy a new pulley, loctite it onto the shaft with the bolt done up tight, then after the loctite has gone off remove the bolt then drill the end of the shaft right on the joint & pin the pulley to the shaft, re-fit bolt. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I think that site is incorrect, Torque is a rotational force not a pressure. Foot Pounds, yes but foot pounds per square inch no.
I have never seen it measured in PSI.
Could be wrong tho. ____________________ Quietly and consistently taking the piss.
