Hi all,

I think when we are growing up we all see a car/bike/plane/whatever that generally sticks in your head, usually you grow up thinking "i'll own one of these...one day!"

for me it's allways been the older cars & bikes like vauxhall chevette hsr, mk1 escort, lotus sunbeam, ford capri, honda nsr500, honda nr, rd350lc.

and the trumps.......BMW 2002tii

what bike or car dose it for you?

The 3 icons that jump straight into my head from growing up are:

Metro 6R4

F40

https://mycarblog.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ferrari-F40.jpg

and for some reason the Tomcat:

Ferrai F40, I love them. I had a ride in one when I was 13 and have lusted after them ever since.

I saw one on the severn bridge last week and followed it for 9 miles so i could listen to it!

When the first Fireblade's came out in 92 I wanted one. A few years later they got rid of the round headlamps and they looked even better. Saddly they got really fugly around the late 90's.

Good news now is I can get my hands on one of the very bikes I lusted after for very little money.

As much as I like these new flash super fast bikes I would rather own one of the old square lumps that I first fell in love with as a kid.

Thats why I'm happy to be riding around on the bike I currently own. It may be 19 years old and ugly by todays sleek standards but I was 14/15 years old when it was the newest bike on the road and I would watch them pass knowing one day I would be owning one. Now I am!

Ok a few blade pics just for perving

The original CBX1100 the one with 6cylinders. Way back arbout 1985 or something a huge bunch of bikers turned up outside my dad's shop.

My dad jokingly said can I have a go? At which my dad got on the back and was taken on a high speed ride around town, back when there were no speed cameras and or speed guns.

He came back pale as a ghost after being scared crapless.... I thought I want one of those....

I used to go to a lot of airshows and museums when I was younger, not so much recently. Grandpa was a rear gunner in a Sunderland 'flying boat' as they were called IIRC? So I always went to these places with him.

I remember seeing a Harrier at one place, coulda been Duxford. I instantly thought, that thing is amazing. I wasn't too old at the time and I was fascinated by the vertical takeoff and landing etc. Sadly I'll never own one! Laughing

https://media.defenseindustrydaily.com/images/AIR_Harrier_GR7A_Afghanistan_Frontal_Flares_lg.jpg

First got into motorbikes at a young age when I discovered my Dad's old photographs from when he used to race Motocross in Leicester. Since then I've always liked the idea of owning a 1981 KX250 A7 in order to restore for my dad, since it's what he used to race and never shuts up about how he wishes he'd never sold the thing! But I know that'll probably never happen either as I can't seem to find one anywhere!

(similar, but not quite):
https://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2007%5C06%5C07%5Cbikepics-924691-800.jpg

Don't really have a 'dream car' or 'dream bike' so to speak. I think as I was growing up it was just 'I want a sports bike when I'm older' and I think what swayed me was that an old friend's dad at my old house, had an early Ninja. I was hooked on starting motocross since my dad did, but then I had a crafty sit on this Ninja when I must have been what, 10 years old? Yes it was massive, but I thought, this is definitely what I want when I'm all grown up!

https://www.bfranker.badz28.com/Ninja2.JPG

Cheers,
Steve.

My grandad was a navigator in a Lancaster, and part of 100 squadron:

https://www.rafweb.org/Sqn_Badges/100Sqn.jpg

I just spoke to him and he said that tailgunners are the equivalent of a drummer. Wink

So I'd probably have to say Lancasters too. Although I am turned on by quite a few planes: Spectre, Hawk, Blackbird, Warthog, P51. Yeah...I am a bit of a slag when it comes to planes actually.

But since this is really just an excuse to wank over cool stuff:

In his defence he was only assigned as tailgunner because he wasn't up for being a pilot Sad

Hazy - I love the P51.

Had a big model of a P51 D on my ceiling as a kid Laughing on that invisible string stuff so it looked like it was flying!

And the Memphis Belle, a Lancaster, Halifax, several Spitfires, all sorts Very Happy.

I'll have to find out what squadron gramps was with, it never occured to me to ask.

G/Fs dad is a planewhore too and he flies big spitfire models and stuff 'cos it's cheaper than owning his old cessna (or something like that, can't remember the story as I was too busy gazing at his planes in the shed when he mentioned it) Razz

Oh I forgot to mention earlier:

I'd love one of these to go to the shops on, I've heard they're legal to ride on the pavements or something but I don't know how much truth is in it? :S
