as some of you know ive been breaking bikes for a while now,now lately ive been selling more and more abroad kenya mainly and mostly between 2 guys in kenya both in nirobi
now one of these guys after spending well over 2k with me asked if he could come over and see my set up , i thought why not so this week he came over with his wife turns out he has a buisness here too we got talking had a few drinks and dinner ect and i ask him why when i went to kenya i saw no sports bikes only chines rubbish he said because nobody imports big bikes to kenya and as such they fetch a premum for example he said he got a 98 zx8r for £1500 and sold in kenya for £8000 so only the rich types in nirobi can afford these toys as he put it
now this got me thinking now i know at least some of what hes telling me is true but 8k??? so im thinking of exporting some myself hes coming back and buying 3 bikes tomorrow off me hopfully but want me to send him more hes always payed cash upfront up till now but should i trust him on future bikes on credit?

Any businessmen from Africa automatically makes me assume they are scamming someone, i expect you can count the number of 'rich people' in Kenya on one hand.

If you sell bikes on credit, to help his cash flow, you should ask for a lot more, as you are taking a big risk, on the hope that he will pay up and you will sell more in the future.

I wouldnt show him too much about your operation here as he might decide to do the same thing and no longer use you.

i cant find bike adds in kenya but found cars fetch silly money
found a 2004 toyota land cruiser for KSh 2,300,000 now to round it off there roughly ksh100 to £1 so that works out to £23000 for an old land cruiser so theres deffinitly money to be had there
heres the add

hes paying cash tomorrow as were dealing face to face but i thinking of future sales to him between today and tomorrow hes pretty much clearing me out and at a handsome profit i might add and cash as it has always been so far
but now hes talking of buying container loads of bikes at a time from me he may be paying up front im not sure how these things work with export

do you buy a container load of bikes from china for example and pay cash up front or when they arrive??

Itchy is doing a trip through africa including kenya, maybe you could get him to take a bike down for you Smile

I guess there could be quite a bit of profit in bikes, as they take up less space in a container than cars, although if you are going to be sending bikes with fairings you might need to protect them a bit.

When I was in Dubai, I met a guy who bought stock in Dubai, and then took it back to Somalia. That was electronics goods though. Not all Africans are untrustworthy, but any business gets out of paying its bills for as long as it can to improve cash flow. Often only paying when the supplier threatens to stop supplying.

Wow, I fancy a piece of this pie. My sister just came back from Kenya on a charity thing, she said Nairobi was full of rich westerners living the dream whereas the surrounding tribes / villages are desperately poor. So sad, but if there's money to be made, there's money to be made Mr. Green

tell your sister to scratch a little deeper and she will notice the tribes all have mobile phones nike trainers a good meal they own the land they live on between them and its not given its payed for there far from rich and are poor but no where near as much as they like people to think
other africain countrys are a lot poorer kenya has reacently discovered a huge amount of titainium in mombassa or near and is a very minraly rich country
the kenyans have a massive amount of respect for the english and hate the germans with a passion as such it is very rare for a white man to be mugged in kenya where as the black man will or can be mugged on a dayly basis there is a lot of room for groth and money to be earned in kenya the arabs are doing a very good job at the moment of keeping the westeners out and earning the moniey for them selves but this is rapidly changing
when i discussed money today with robert( mr kenya) he told me everything will be payed for in full before shipping and handed me another wedge for 2 bikes coming back for more soon Thumbs Up

kenya bike club
https://bikez4kenya-koe.blogspot.com/
at the moment only the rich can afford the new bikes at a price almost double to what we pay
but the wealthy not rich still want these machines so are buying older bikes at an inflated price
i see this as a bit of a bubble that i aim to use to my advantage this bubble will burst shortly once the big 4 realise theres an ever growing market for these bikes and start exporting to kenya the prices will plumet and wont be worth doing but for now let coinage roll Thumbs Up

Try it once, a £2000 bike isn't THAT much of a loss if it all goes tits up. And yes, was a bit ignorant on that post, back to the old "if it sounds too good to be true, it generally is" scenario. Just looking out for you Carl!

I'd like to get a slice of this pie, seems like a legitimate market that could be pretty simple to get in to.

i wish it was easy your not aloud to import bikes to kenya over 4 years old so you have to find a buyer that know some corupt people in goverment and even then the bikes have to be stripped and imported as bike parts rather than bikes then they rebuild them in kenya
