Don't do it, Sony are checking constantly now for active hacks. There was a security update 2-3 weeks ago regarding it.

More info here: https://uk.playstation.com/ps3/support/system-software/detail/item303252/Update-features-(ver-3-42)/

It's not worth doing it, you don't get any gains, and to break your ps3, theres not much point.

[edit] Forgot to mention, that the fix stops the usb jailbreak from working (afaik - I could be wrong) [/edit]

My understanding is that this is only the case if you DO update.

If you dont update then there is nothing they can do.

It's not worth having a shedload of games stored on the hard drive, or to have a bookdoor into the OS to allow homebrew etc?

How can it break the PS3? Impossible! The jailbreak device is an exact copy of Sony's USB jig which they use in the repair centres.

Also, the 3.42 Update will block the hole in the bootloader so if you do intend to jailbreak it, dont update the FW. I'm sticking with 3.41 until a jailbreak app for the Blackberry is released as I'm too tight to spend £40 on a dongle at the moment. Laughing

it puts the PS3 into a sort of "debug" mode where you can launch unsigned files.

You go order then but you'll regret it because "my friend" told me that buyps3jailbreak.co.uk are a bunch of cock licking scumbags.

I am surprised there are not more people looking into this?

Must be because everyone uses the xbox lol

I am thinking this may give me a reason to turn my Ps3 back on!

The thing is, the dongle needs to be left plugged into the PS3 at all times, so, would be pointless.

Can make em for around £6 SmileSmile

1 x pic
couple of caps n resistors
1 x usb connector
couple of led's

program it Smile job done.

Oh and very soon there will be a newer version that actually backs up the current firmware and has onboard switchable firmware Smile thus allowing updates for online play, But atm if you play online forget about this as it is piss easy for sony to detect and they are banning consoles. Unless you have a one for online one for offline

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

One of the dongles, or code on said dongle is now allowing the dongle to be removed after booting into debug mode.

I'm not sure which as I'm not really interested in it anymore. Laughing

Edit - Beat to it.

I'm not selling them lol,

The diagrams are all over the net on how to make one for a few quid no special knowledge needed as its all there in black n white to follow (need to be able to at least solder i suppose)

ATM you cant update to 3.42 as this kills the hack but better versions are already in the pipeline

as said above tho you can also do this with android phones for free theres even a rough beta version out for the iphone/ipod touch 2g/3g (not 3gs/4g)

You can get the clones for less than £20 delivered, they are just plug and play. last time I looked the clones were on dealextreme etc for around £14 delivered, although as stated they are clones, and lack some features

I am not paying £90 for something that is now essentially open source.

If I had an android phone I would be running this now, but alas I am an iphone monkey.

Possible iphone jailbreak port coming soon.

So no one in the geek zone has done this?

Surprising?
