Hello all

quick question - I've looked up what to do with the phone and am following those instructions but my question is....

as i don't have a spare phone but need to get a text msg to someone asap to let them know why I'm not responding to any messages they may have sent today....

is it possible to send text messages from a pc, there are free sites but will they abuse the number that i text to by sending lots of spam texts and calls their way? Help!!!!

www.o2.co.uk (or click here: https://www.o2.co.uk/login?dest=https://sendtxt.o2.co.uk/sendtxt/action/compose)

they have a sms section - sign up, and you can send text messages (i believe you get 10 free, then have to pay for more, which gets put onto your mobile phone bill).

or... www.cbfsms.com (I used this when I was back in school, not sure if it still works)

other than that, take your phone apart, put it on a towel on top of a radiator to dry out. I'd recommend 24hours or so to make sure its all dry internally. This is how I dried my old phone when I dropped it in a glass of juice.

thanks! I can't ring them from home phone (or any phone) as they're abroad and had already said they'll not pick up as they have to pay for the call Smile

I've taken my phone as much apart as I can , which wasn't very Sad and have put it in the airing cupboard to dry - made mistake of reconnecting battery too soon as was impatient to try it out and think may have fried components permanently according to advice on eHow but won't find out until this time 2mo Sad bugger, can't afford a new phone Sad

In the meantime have dug out my old nokia 3210 and amazingly, apart from a very dodgy connection on the battery charger, it IS working and can send short rudimentary texts from it and receive too, can't remember how the menu works and can't scroll down the predictive text so have to accept first word it offers. Which I don't think is book at all!!

The O2 info is useful thank you! Thank goodness for BCF, it comes up trumps again Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

You would be better to wash it in de-ionised water before drying it if it's been dropped in something like tea or juice.

Thanks, yeah, someone else has since told me that, should have done it straight away but I didn't realise that when it happened, my main concern was getting it dried out asap. I'm leaving it well alone til 2moro evening, if no joy I'm going to try giving it a rinse if it's still acting weird, if it's already broken I won't have anything to lose at that point! Someone else just said to rinse it out with a strong alcohol as it dries quicker and leaves no residue, someone else said tap water, but better still deionised water. If it ever happens again, I'll know what to do.

I've had phones since the late 80's and never done anything like it. Although I did kill a work laptop with a cup of sugary coffee once hehehe

One I use all the time when I run out of credit: www.cbfsms.com

It has a 160 character limit and adds a small message one the end ("Send free texts from cbfsms.com")

and the person you text can send a reply back and you can read it online, just remember to write down the "message ID" number.

No spam/ abouse of the number/ them recieving messages telling them to pay £5 to read a message. Thumbs Up

tea mobile Rolling Eyes oh how i larfd Laughing

Clean off the board with water and a toothbrush

Use hairdryer on it, high heat, low fan and cook it for a few mins, it can, does and has dry out the board but also depending on how hard you try can re solder joints but try not to remove components by blowing them away.

Her's one i made earlier.
The older phones used to take it well, built like bricks, new phones are a bit too weak to handle the abuse.

Have you tried pressing one of the buttons at the bottom of the keypad like the * or # as that seems to work on most phones to change the word thats been predicted.

It's an old nokia 3210, i found how to do it, you have to underline the word, press options, scroll down to Matches, scroll thru the list then press Use. And if you press Back, you lose the lot and have to start all over again, the message you were working on has vanished. What a pain, how did I survive with this phone for so long, makes you realise how far they've evolved in such a short time!

3210, christ. Shocked
I still have parts for these, screens, charging blocks, housings, even vibrate motor upgrades (they didn't come with vibrate as standard)

yeah I know lol Like i say, the 3210 is the phone I've just dug out of the archives to tide me over while my sony dries out. It's a w800i which, to many, might be considered an antique too (? I have no idea, in any case it was second hand when I acquired it) but I keep things until they break (or get dropped in tea Sad ) and don't change something unless it needs it. I'm the same with everything, you should see my telly, oh how you'd laugh.....

Mine slipped out of my hand in the kitchen, bounced twice then landed in the dog's water bowl. Bollocks, that was the end of that.
