Will a Gatso flash you for doing to 30mph speed limit on a 30mph road that has changed to 20mph with the flashing lights at a school?

I would have thought that they would be set to go off for vehicles travelling at over 30mph. As that will be the speed limit for the road most of the time.

Not sure they can program then to change from 30 to 20mph during specific hours of the day.

AFAIK if its a Green circle round the 20 on the sign its not legally enforceable as it doesnt conform to standard speed limit sign regulations.

So it remains 30mph max with a 20mph advisory during hours of most risk.

But if in court the jury would see that evidence that you were ignoring advice so would be a due care and attention issue then. Smile

In Oz when the lights are flashing the limit drops from 40kph to to 25kph and everyman and his dog crawls along as it is enforced with a rod of iron by the Police*. Maybe not a bad thing to adopt here to be fair.

* They also grass each other up to the local authorities too. If you see a vehicle driving irresponsibly, wheel spinning from lights, loud music, P plate drivers out in the dark... you can take details and report to the Police. People tend to be more cautious and caring with this in place.

I have hired a car a few times when on business in the USA. I am 'relatively elderly' and definitely not a boy-racer type, but in general I did think the average USA driver was a slow coach

What I did note and respect over there was the way the road either side of a school is reduced speed limit AND that the majority of people obeyed the reduced limit. Sometime the limit was daytime only or just for specific times (flashing lights to indicate).

Personally I think it a good idea.

Cheers bud so if it is regularly used to enforce a 30mph limit it can change down to 20mph in the designated times?

Thanks to everyone else who replied too! Karma Thumbs Up

Rubbish, if the twenty sign is on at a school you'll be nicked for speeding if you do 30mph, I know this because the traffic cops were doing drivers here for that very reason, they collected a lot of revenue that day. Smile Thumbs Up

Thanks again for your replies chaps.

I know that if the limit was 20 that's what I should've been doing. Unfortunately though I wasn't. Does anyone know then if the limit of the road is 30 for all hours outside schools, will the speed camera change for the hours that the signs flash?

Looks as though it can't change in this instance then!

I wouldnt worry about it one bit if its just the static camera as it wont flash unless you were exceeding the speed limited it was set to detect, it wont reset to 20mph for an hour then go back to 30mph, its too much hassle to set them up to do that, the time I saw them all getting nicked was the traffic cops were sitting down the road a bit with a hand held camera, good luck but you wont need it Very Happy Thumbs Up
