Hey guys, i'm looking at moving up from my 600f to superbike territory now. Have a potential buyer coming round this evening so i can now start looking at another bike.

Just looking at what owners have felt about theirs, whats it like to live with, how easy they are to work on, availabilty of spares etc etc. Just after any comparisions really, common faults etc.

One's im looking at are

CBR 954 & Early 1000rr

2002/03 R1
2004 R1

Early ZX10r

Gonna be mainly using the bike for fun, the odd annual tour and trackday.

I've heard about the pre injection models of the R1 tend to understeer when ridden hard, and it's kind of put me off wanting an early one. This was fixed on 2002> bikes and despite being a bit tamer I want something that'll handle good which makes me think maybe i should stick with the neutralness of a honda.

Main thing is i want something thats gonna have at least equal or sharper handling than my 600, probably not too difficult with newer bikes. I quite like titots description of his 929 as a 600 on steroids and that about sums up what im after.

What about the 2004 ZX10R that was the one that had a mental reputation for some reason. If I ever decided to get a Jap 1000 then thats the one I'd go for Thumbs Up

Or you could go for the GSXR 750 as a bit of a half way house, as flickable as a 600 and can run with a 1000 pack with a bit of effort.

Good luck, them things handle like they're on rails, i havent ridden anything as of yet that handles better unless you go down the cc range or older.

Consider K5 GSXR1000? Very manageable, Not sure about the ease to work on, but in regards to plugs/oil its not too bad at all.
Parts all over the place, simple.

Yep looking at the 04 zx10r, not too sure i could live with the suzuki, its more to do with the finish wise, as i think it might end up as a bucket of rust under my ownership! I was thinking about some of the big twins as well like the RSV or maybe the SP1/2 not too sure about the RSV but isnt the tank range/fuel consumption of the SP pretty terrible? Tug, i think my ideal bike would probably be the 08+ cbr, tiny like a 6 but with the stop of the litres but unfortunately can't stretch to one so looking for the next best thing in my price range really. My short list seems to be available for between 2500-4k depending on mileage and condition.

the 954 is miles better than the 929, the 954 is awesome, beautiful and i want its babies...

.. and no im not just saying that as i've got one Very Happy

the blade handles far better than my 600F ever did and i thought that was good!

its funny in comparison my 600 feels heavy, sluggish and less ergonomic (sp) by far. the blade is just perfect.

its also comfy, i've just done a 1660 mile scotland tour with no problems whatsoever.. brilliant!

after this tho the 04+ 1000RR went a bit more focused and lost some of that 'allrounder' ability. not as comfy by far.

i think the 954 is the perfect blend of roadbike and maniac blast machine. silly fast but compliments your ability without biting your head off if you look at it funny.

thats not to say your other options arent worthy, but the blade is just awesome Embarassed

get some test rides done and decide Smile

I agree with most of the above. Plus you really need to try and get some test rides to see what one 'fits' you the best.
I had a quick gander on Auto trader and there are a few 04' RSV's and ZX10r's under 4K.

The Aprilia is outstanding value for money although the availibility of spares and dealers can be an issue.
But fuck me just look at it Drooling

Plus, the ZX-10 sounds like a man shouting remember.

When looking for a new bike that is always high on my list of priorities.

I've always thought the RSV1000Rs would look better if the nose was a few mm lower, looks a bit flat as is in pictures.

But I know a few around here, they are the sex stood next to them. Drooling.
