I really don't like swivel vices. No matter how hard you screw them down, they always seem to decide to swivel when it is least appropriate (eg, just as your drill exits the back of a seized stud causing the drill to snap off in the hole).

What the hell is a vise?? Laughing

Can we expect another "coming out" thread soon? That was a perfectly manly vice before!

[edit] Ohhh yeah, yanks can't spell.

It's a vice, it's supposed to look rusty, shit and manly. Not tarty, polished and gay.

More chavvy to have a bloody tarted up vice!

I've got the multi-swivel one from Machine mart and so far it's always stuck fast when properly done up.

A vice would have to spend a few years in the sea to become rusty scrap. It's a vice, not an iron-filigree handkerchief. All a vice needs is a bit of oil/grease on it's moving parts and the occasional clout with a (rusty) mallet.

That's a proper sized vise, in good nick too especially the jaws. I like the funky jaw fitting system never seen that before.

Have you straightened the handle yet?

I can live with a curved handle Smile The jaws are held in place by pins that go through the dovetail looking bit.

The red one is getting new brass jaws & I'll make a new handle for that one on one of the lathes.

Did ya spot the British one?

That's a pretty ghey bench too, looks like it would fold if you sat on it. Save the vices!

Here's a proper man's bench (home-made):

That'll take a Maybach that will.

That bench was originally a WWII Hamilton Standard propellor stand that was destined for the dump...

& here's a pic for Pete of an old Ridgid (not mine) that shows the pins holding the jaws:

+1

But that's a subjective opinion. Objectively, if you're selling them, they've got to look their best.
