So I'm there, this morning, in the estate agents, picking up the keys to new place. The guy's actually part-human, used to be a biker, chatting about my CBR and saying how he wants to get back into it but his missus won't let him.

Anyway - all done. Everything collected, back out to the bike, rucksack on, helmet on, gloves on... bike won't start. Totally dead.

There's me, wondering if I'd tripped the bank angle sensor when I bumped up the kerb (very slowly) to park. Knocking it into gear and pushing it to engage the drivetrain, just in case the switch wouldn't let it start as the kickstand was down. Stripping off the seat and changing fuses around and around some more. All this time, being watched by the guy in the estate agency, wondering why I hadn't ridden off for 10 minutes. Thinking about how embarrassing it would be to call out the AA, and wondering how I could subtly push the bike round the corner without them seeing me do it.

Then... looking at the killswitch, and thinking - "Hold on, that looks different..."

So, if anyone was walking around the Surrey Quays area of London, wondering why a man was on his knees, in full bike gear, with tears of laughter pouring out of his helmet, then now you know why. Cue your scorn and derision - I deserve it! Laughing

Felt a right plonker after I noticed the kill switch was off Smile

I did something similar in Japan, engine died and I had the seat and rear cowling off (VFR400), then realised the main tank had run dry. Switched it to reserve and away I went. Embarassed

Everyone has done this. I have attempted to start several bikes without even putting the ignition key in, far less turning it on Laughing

I do this as a joke to my mates, one time it kinda back fired. Or actually it was one of the best times I have done it.

We were off to Le Mans for the MotoGP on the train via the tunnel, so we were chatting in the train etc, I decided to flip my mates killswitch on his CBR as a laugh. Time passed, I forgot I did it.

So time to fire the bikes up, we are in Calais. I set off as I am in front of him all the way down the train to the fron(we were at the back). Got out of the train and rode up the ramp and to the nearest place to pull over to regroup as there were 8 of us. 2 bikes missing, all sorts of things going through our minds. We called them, nothing.

15 minutes later my 2 mates pull up and the guy on the CBR rolls up next to me looking pissed off and sweaty. He then began to tell us all that he couldn't start his bike, it was turning over etc but not firing. Turned out he had the train staff helping him first off push his bike all the way down the train to the front, then bump starting his bike down the platform for about 5 - 10 minutes, all the time delaying the train to leave with the next load of passengers, then he realised the killswitch had been tripped...All of us pissing ourselves laughing at this point, which, made him even more mad. Laughing

Bishbash, thats fucking quality Thumbs Up

I'm not sure i'd have admitted it after that, its kinda went beyond a joke at that stage, it'd really depend on who i'd done it to Laughing

Does anyone else have times when their brain justs completely lets them down? I was sat on my bike the other day, key in ignition and switched on but no idea how to actually start the bike. Started prodding random things including the horn before my brain finally started working again.

I have had it in the morning, unlocked and uncovered the bike key in ignition then hit the horn trying to start making my self jump and spilling coffee over a white shirt. To which my dad comes out and asks me what the fuck I'm doing Embarassed

Never! Well, err.. apart from last night that is when I filled the bike up with diesel.. again!. Doh! Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall

That's twice now, in less than 12 months! I was so busy trying to remember my pin number when I pulled up that it didn't occur to me to make sure it was V-Power unleaded and not V-Power diesel I was pumping in. My only defence, apart from being distracted, is that all the pumps at the station, apart from this one, have the VP unleaded as the middle pump handle.

After a lot of faffing around with pipes and petrol cans, draining and flushing, I got it running again though, thank goodness. In fact, it seems to be running better now than it did before.

Still can hardly believe I did it though. Thought I'd learnt from last time. What a twat... Embarassed

I never really do the kill switch thing, dunno but when the bike doesn't start I just know straight away either the stand is down or the kill switch is on... If I drive away and 15 seconds later it cuts out, I know the fuel tap isn't turned to on Very Happy Thumbs Up That catches me out some times though.

Did it thismorning. Started bike, shut garage door, geared up and jumped on the bike. no hands on the bars, i looked at the neutral light, brain went dead and i for some reason just clicked it into first. no clutch, no hands, nothing. i've NEVER stalled a bike while trying to pull off, only ever done this type of STUPID thing twice. also forgot the killswitch once outside college, realised sharpish though Smile

Oh and i've also forgot to turn the fuel on twice and got round the corner before thinking "bit unresponsive" then feeling like a right cock by the time i caught my mate up

It's a self-defense mechanism your brain has for telling you you're too tired/pissed/high/dumb to ride just yet Smile
