Have your say on the impending effort to have this legislation brought in:

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2010/September/sep2210-euro-moto-threat/_/R-EPI-126876

The form is here:

https://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/ipm/forms/dispatch?form=roadworthiness

My thoughts in the last box:

I believe that a PTI and random roadside inspections without suspicion are punitive and unecessarily penalise lawful and legal drivers and riders. It's completely inappropriate. I consider myself a Europhile, but this is a case of legislation for legislations sake. And the amount of businesses and employees it's likely to have an adverse effect on doesn't bear thinking about. Leave the lawful motorist/biker alone. Put your efforts into catching those that drive unlicensed and uninsured. They give the rest of us a bad name, not the fact that we've got aftermarket accessories on our cars/bikes.

So every time you bought a bike you'd need to MOT it straight away, regardless of when the MOT was due?

Thumbs Down

Already done this and opted for 'no change', but you know what the EU is like when it gets an idea in it's head like this.

I imagine that most other Euro countries won't worry about it as much as we would (as some are already there, afaik?) so I'm not hopeful of a happy ending.

But still worth signing tho, as you never know, it just might make a difference.

its the constant shit like this which is happening more and more frequently which makes me want to stick 2 fingers up to the whole europe thing.

Sooner we get a government with the balls to scrap our membership, the better now!

I wouldn't bet on that, Finland, at least, has no bike MOTs.

While I would agree that the whole EU thing has got way out of hand, it is worth remembering that when it was founded, the main purpose was to avoid war between the major powers in Europe. In that, it has been successful, I am 52 and my generation is the first for sometime not to have had to fight in Europe.

Lol it's a proposal, and it mainly covers vehicles other than motorcycles.

I filled it out, i think a euro wide standard is a good idea - I selected that it should be on based on the minimum/easiest standard to obtain.

So in effect our MOT's could get easier.

I love this question...

Quote:
To improve road safety and reduce emissions, how much could the PTI cost reasonably increase for you? (optional)

up to 5%
up to 10%
up to 20%
up to 30%

Where is my option for 'the current cost is correct' ?...

the EU was never setup to prevent war, the thousands of American troops in germany and the USSR pointing nuclear bombs at us prevented war. The EU is effectively the 4th reich. Look at the EU laws and rules closely. The EU has the power to ban parties which are anti EU. They have powers to unilaterally declare martial law and the death penalty was covertly (re)introduced by the EU in 2008.

It merely says emergencies.

HOwever don't worry too much the EU economy is falling to bits the PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece Spain) their economies are falling to bits. Germany can't carry them all.

The EU grew out of the European Iron and Steel federation and Euratom, which were set up (especially the former) in order to prevent disputes over the iron ore in the border areas between France and Germany becoming a trigger point for further conflict after WW2.
