Talking to a biking friend today and he was moaning like mad about getting pulled over four times in a week. I know its in a city but dont you think this is abit much. He has proper m.o.t, insurance, tax and a licence. He rides in full leather and is on a suzuki gsxr 750. Was wondering if you guys get the same or he is just unlucky. Thanks

Probably his riding is a bit irratic, if he's wearing all the gear they generally dont bother you, maybe he should ask them why they stopped him then change whatever it is, last time I was stopped was last christmas when they were stopping everyone for drunk driving checks, last time I was stopped while riding was about four years ago, shit now Ive said that Im gonna get stopped all the time

I can think of 3 times since Nov 2006 that I have been pulled.

1. No L plate
2. Mate was pulling wheelies, we got tailed so we split, sneaky police had about 4 cars following us so they split too and we both got pulled.
3. Rear light was out at night.

I'm pretty certain that is it. And I don't ride like an angel either.

4 times in 3 years. Just chats, one about speeding, one about riding safely and 1 about sliding the rear around Slone square and another about my wheels were slightly misaligned so the bike cop took me over and showed me how to readjust

And again im no angle.

Thats strange, i dont think bike crime is a big think im my area but yeah maybe a similar bike has been stolen. The police said there were pulling him of to check details as a general traffic stop :S

Only ever been stopped the once, and that was at a police 'safety awareness' roadblock, given that had just overtaken 3 cars at once on an NSL single carriageway (safely and considerately mind) they most likely heard me coming so I can't say I blame them even if their attitude towards me did utterly stink.

More surprising is the fact that I never got pulled on my SP1, that thing was obnoxiously loud.

I'm inclined to agree with the 'ride like a muppet and you'll get pulled' stance given my experiences

Worst i've had was 3 times in 1 day:

Just to have a look over the bike. I'd been speeding for a while before hand so i guess maybe they saw me going a bit quick and decided to pull me to see what they could do me for.

Suspected stolen. I went through an automated plate reader with a dirty screw in the gap of a 6 making it look like an 8.

Just a routing stop. This guy was very interested in my exhaust and tax disc.

So there I was standing at the bar at uni with my A* jacket on and helmet in my hand, when a slightly older (i'd say 30ish) but good looking lady next to me glances at me a few times; then asks what bike I have. I tell her its a honda hornet 600 to which she proceeds to tell me about her CB500 which was recently nicked. then she told me she would probably see me around and went off with her drink.

so not exactly, but very nearly a pull.

Second time they wanted to check I owned the 125 I was riding! !

On the way to work, got pulled once for riding over a zebra crossing whilst someone was waiting to cross. Genuine mistake on my part because I had just come round a corner and was nearly on top of the crossing but I was looking ahead at a junction where a police car (black traffic officer type) was about to pull out, too busy thinking about whether I was gonna get pulled out on or not and didn't notice the person waiting until the last moment when it was too late to stop.

Anyway, the officer pulled me over a bit down the road and I was very polite, maintaining all the time that I realised my mistake and was very dissapointed in myself (I really was, it was schoolboy error on my part). Maybe the facts that I had all my paperwork (license, insurance etc) on me, had a clean license, was in full gear, and was being reasonable and polite helped, because she let me off with a 'just be careful in future'.

Later on, I'm not 100% sure if it was an offence because the Highway Code states that they have to be ON the crossing. Is beside the road seen as part of the crossing, or do they have to have stepped foot onto the road?

Other than that, never been stopped in all 30'000 miles I've been riding, which I'm a bit miffed at because I ride a 125 without L plates, which isn't that common for someone with a full license to do.

Three times I think, in 10 years:

1. Tail light was out when riding home at 2am on my Bandit 400.
2. Random drink-drive checks coming out of town one night on my NC30.
3. Crossing double white lines on my CB1 - 3 points, £60 fine.

I don't tend to attract the police at all really. Bikes are more or less legal, the worse infringements being an unbaffled exhaust or using a dark visor in bright sunshine.

Me and a few mates were trail riding oop north. I'd fell off quite hard twice and snapped off both rear indicators. We were heading home on that Cat n Fiddle road they're always on about when a police car started following us.

We rode like nuns on tranquilisers for a while and then the 'whoop whoop' signalled it was time to pull over.

Two of HM's finest wandered up to our mud covered bikes and bodies, one carrying a clipboard.

I was just getting my 'falling off' story ready to explain my lack of indicators when one of them put his clipboard on top of my rear rack, covering the stumps with wires hanging out and proceeded to write a ticket out for the bike behind mine's numberplate, which was made with very small Letraset.

The rozzer then pointed at my numberplate which was about the size of a small planet but facing the sky and told my mate that was how it should be. "Quite right", says I. He whipped the clipboard off my bike and without looking back walked off telling us to enjoy the rest of our day.
